I'd been hearing about this for some time, and read the meeting report in the paper.
Me, I'm for it. That's tourism dollars all the way around. Add the horse track, and cumberland falls, and Laurel lake, and you have a tourism weekend. Even a whole week for some.
Corbin will benefit from this, but not as much as London/Laurel.
The church groups give their same old tired arguments, but, most people aren't buying it as much as they used to. There will always be those that don't want anything.

Lets hear some comments and such.
Me, I think it's a big positive.
It should help tourism. Quarter Horse racing is not as enjoyable as Thourougbred horse racing, but it is exciting. London is to be commended for willingness to think to the future to build a strong economic base.
I wish it would have been in whitley county, corbin particularly, but, we don't have the leaders for that. We'll be lucky to keep the Expo Center running with Carpenter and Estep at the helm.
A newspaper column made mention they felt this track was a precursor for a casino coming in. So what. I'm a republician, and I voted for Beshear for that very reason, to give us a choice in having casino's or not. Fletcher is at home now, for that very reason (sort of). I hope London gets a casino, with their agressive thinking, they deserve one. We have our sewer and heating problems at the old civic center, now being converted into a multi use football field, and they are likely to get a horse racing track. The paper reported that although the full time job issue may not be the best of things, but in reading on, the property taxes to the county will be huge.
The preachers talked the same talk about the kentucky lottery before it came in, and their revelations did not come to pass. They said the same thing about the alcohol vote in corbin, london, and also Burnside, and their premonitions again were wrong. Years ago, they joined in protesting and marching on the Off Track Betting parlor, to stop it from coming in, and their sermons on organized crime, prostitutes, and other seedy characters never materialized. And in this case, the Off Track, you'd never know it was there, and the city gets money from it. So, I'd say their fears and attempts to scare people into thinking the world will end if a horse track, or casino, comes to the area, are also wrong. We're all entitled to our opinions.
This race track will be a tourism boost to both corbin and london.
