RE: Why do so many of you on here hate Corbin?

I believe this message board has done alot in terms of lighting a fire under some very comfortable and sometimes lazy city officials. People asking questions is a good thing, whether they like it or not.

Exactly, excellent point.

People mistake criticism for personal vendetta's.

Lazy city officials? Insults like this are the very reason that the Bob Terrell message board is looked upon by many as being bad for Corbin. I am sure that the hand shaking, fake smile and the "good to see you" starts to wear thin with local leaders and volunteers when they are constantly being told of insults to them on this forum.

I guess the same goes for the city leaders and elected officials when they shake your hand, kiss your babies, tell you they'll take care of something, and then lie to your face and talk about you wears thin as well.

No one here hates corbin. Actually, they like it so much, and they feel so strongly about how they think it could be better, it may sometimes appear that way. This board has given people the opportunity to voice their opinions and ideas. We've never had that before.

If you feel that strongly Nibroc Fan why don't you move into the city and offer yourself to the voters of Corbin? You might like that better than just hiding on the message board. Or maybe not.

From reading this board, the vibe I get from most posters is that they are very unhappy with the town and our elected leaders and are always wanting to change it into someplace else they've been to or lived or seen on TV. While that might not be "hating" Corbin, it sure shows a certain disgust for our town. I think we should celebrate our positives and magnify those instead of always slamming everything all the time like Humility and Angela B and others do.

The previous poster had a good idea Nibroc fan. Why don't you run for office in Corbin and see how well you do? Of course, I'm sure you realize you run the risk of it being a real rude awakening for you when voters reject your negative attitude.

From reading your posts, Little League Mom, it seems like you don't like any of us who use this board.  Do you think we should all gather around and celebrate that our city won't stand up to get its rightful share of the Knox County Occupational taxes that are collected from Corbin businesses and Corbin employees in Corbin, Knox County?  Should we have the cheerleaders out there leading us in a cheer about that?  Should we have a pep rally about the road at the new elementary school on fifth street road where the state has not improved a dangerous intersection?  Maybe we should get the band to march down Main Street and play Hail to the Chief each time a business moves out of town. This message board does not prevent you from celebrating anything you want to celebrate. You have the liberty to stand up for or criticize anyone you want to.  But you don't like it when we exercise our rights on this board and express our opinions.

You seem very critical of everything. Why don't you run for office and change things for the better, or make your feelings known at a public meeting.

I'm sure you will do this.

Little League Mom, have you considered that Nibroc Fan is already in office, or has been. Maybe you should put up or shut up, and run for office or get on a committee. Of course you'll have to pass the litmus test first, to totally devote yourself to our mayor and committee chairpersons and promise to go along with their wishes and ideas.

Corbin celebrates its positives every day, with low crime, great schools, and a town you can really still leave your house doors unlocked in, and the keys in your car. Sure we have an occasional glitch in that, but rarely.

You sound as if you have a personal beef with Humility and Angela B., yet they offer positive constructive suggestions, and you, well, what have you came up with since posting. Nothing I've seen so far.

Is this true? Do you really have to do this to run for office or be on a committee?

Or are you just making up stories again.

Now that eveyone has to register to post, I'll put this out now.

I think this was a bogus post to begin with, to stir up problems in the city, particularly city hall.

And furthermore, I think this board is a great communications tool for all to use, to help promote the city, sound out ideas and suggestions and more.

I think if it came down to it, you'd have more of a fight to find out who actually loves corbin and the area more. People live here because they want to, not because they have to.

I agree, its like those who used to throw out this "if you badmouth the Iraq War, you hate our Country" stuff.

I love our town, and want it to compete with the rest of the world and be the best it can be. It was a bad attempt by a couple of people to deter the attention away from their job performance, which is what they do on all of these topics, trying to change the subject.

If you love your community, you want it to grow socially, economically and spiritually. I see little of that these days, and those who think an Applebee's is the utopia of moving forward need to get in the real world before the real world buries us. We currently have an average family income of only $20,000, less than half that of the real world. We need jobs, we need new types of retail business, and we need people who can help attain these goals, and also we need to stop losing to London and other cities. Those who only want to do things their way or no way need to get out of the way and think about the rest of the community.
