Corbin Chamber of Commerce has record number of members

Just heard the other day that the Corbin Chamber of Commerce now has more members than ever. Dues are coming in and the coffers are overflowing! Our local business community is united and thriving. This is so exciting!

Who told you that?

I've heard just the opposite. Members are ticked off, and not renewing their memberships. They have realized they are getting nothing for their dues. They are seeing their dues money wasated for politicial action luncheons, on both sides, and have no say in how their money is spent.

I'll tell you what, when Samantha Swindler or Trent Knuckles or both puts it in the paper, I'll believe it.

That is truly great news! I've heard a lot of people are joining who were never members previously. Things seem to be going in the right direction.

It seems we get our information from different sources. I've heard just the opposite.

I wish they would publish this information. I know of 5 business's I patronize weekly that are not members. I asked them why. Three said they saw no return for their investment and had no say in what goes on in the chamber, and the other two say they've never been personally contacted and given an explanation as to what the chamber can do for them.

I would really like to know the fact on this.

I go to the chamber lunch every month at the tech center and there are always new members recognized there. Many more than I ever remember in previous years. They had about 7 or 8 this month. We are given a report about membership. It's easy enough to find out more if you go and talk to one of the board members or Bruce Carpenter.

My guess is you aren't a chamber member, don't ever intend to be one and just like to complain and stir up trouble on this board in an effort to tear things down. The original poster was trying to report something positive on here for a change. I Should have known it wouldn't take long for someone like you to spin it into something negative, but that sort of reflects the attitude of the powers that be on this board.

The "powers that be on this board" are the posters that post, including you.

They don't tell you the members that have dropped out, do they.

If you go to the chamber lunch every month, then' you're one of those that has a job that allows you to do so, or you're retired.

I'm a business person in this town, and the chamber is a joke. I was a member, and dropped out a couple of years ago when I point blanked asked Bruce and two members of the board where "MY" money goes. They had no answer.

SO, there you are.

Oh, and by the way, I'm really glad now that I'm not part of the Chamber of Commerce circus, as I DO NOT BELIEVE THE CHAMBER SHOULD BE USED FOR POLITICIANS TO PLEAD THEIR CAUSES, no matter what party they represent.

Carpenter is just sucking up trying to get them to hire him for he Expo Center manager.

The above post is one of those jealous type who is on the outside looking in. I am sorry that you feel the way you do. Remember its only what you put into something that you will get a return. Its not just give money and what have you done for me lately, as most people think is the way it happpens. You should give and support your community. What do you think all the big people in town think who have given for years. Look at Pepsi, Bartons, etc. Do you think wow this community hasn't given me enough back. Do you think that Pepsi says wow people buy Coke in Corbin and we need to stop giving. No they give without expecting something in return. Which is the way it is suppose to be. I am sure you are one thats gives a gift and then expects one in return?

I'm sure this poster is one of Corbin's first families. One that feels they should have a say in running things, no matter how bad a job they do. Do you think for one minute that the company and family you mentioned gave anything just for the sake of giving. Has your head been in the sand for that many years. You need to wake up and look around you. Their giving is rewarded with influence with elected officials and votes at the polls.

You're either one of the suck ups that hang around this bunch, or want to be.

I agree with the post just above mine to a certain degree. However, the Hoover family does so many good things quietly people don't even know about. Bill Hoover and his family do care very much about our area. I think he stays out of the politics as much as possible. I have a great respect for the Hoover family and the history of Pepsi Cola in our area.

I thought Pepsi stopped giving when their general manager was hired.

My boss has that kind of software on her computer at work. I can't remember the exact name but is is something like IP Buster or Proxy Buster or something like that. It can track down the IP address of a poster on a message board even if you do not have administrative access to the board itself. The problem is that most IP providers like AT&T or Newwave will not disclose the identity of the IP address without legal paperwork. It gets even tougher if a proxy server is used. The very purpose of a proxy server is to protect the users identity and they are not about to give up the users information. TOR is be best one and it is impossible to track or bust even with a court order. By the way, TOR is free. Just do a google search for TOR, the onion. The downside of TOR is that it is sort of slow since your internet browsing goes through several TOR servers and sometimes around the world. The good side is that you can turn TOR on and off with the click of a button.

You seem to be in the know. So I'm curious, who all has dropped out of the chamber recently?

You said you are a business owner that dropped out, so who are you and what business do you own?

I'm sure you can answer these questions for us unless you are full of bull.

Kind of what I figured.

Making up stories. Full of bull.
