I just moved here this year, and I have to tell you guys I am bored out of my mind. Sure in the summer there are things to do with the lake and all but in the winter there is not so much. We need some museums, and nice park with a pond, playground along with walking trails that you can stroll your children through. We need more diversity in stores as well.
First of all, Welcome to Corbin. We're glad to have you, I think you'll grow to love this area.
And, you're right. It's boring as heck.
I invite you to get involved in any activity that interests you. We need some "fresh eyes" to help us overcome this age old complacency problem we have.
I would suggest contacting Ms. Sharae Myers, our Downtown project manager. She's always looking for good help and ideas. She is a super person, and full of energy and enthusiasm. She would welcome you with open arms.

Welcome to Corbin. One of the best ways to get plugged in to our community is to find a church you like and get involved. Many of the area churches have activities, functions, and if you have kids, there are tons of things they can get involved in. Corbin is a great small town, and a great place to live.
Corbin is a small town and as in any small town, activities are limited. But we are within 1-1 1/2 hr drive from two large cities so I don't really see a problem. There is always a trade off.
I'm sure moving into Corbin, especially from a large city, would be a big transition for anyone. But, I've lived here my whole life except for college, and have to say I have never been bored. Not because there is so much entertainment or activities going on, but because I usually find something to get involved with, whether it is a civic group, non-profit group, or church-related activities. Or, heck, better than that, start a group. Look for a need and start something. I've done that in the past, as well, and have to say, I got more from starting something from the ground up. And, Devin is right, you only have to drive to Lexington or Knoxville for more things to do. It is definitely a trade-off, but one worth it, I think.
We need to budget additional funds for recreation - not just for school aged people, but for all ages. I read another post somewhere on here that spoke of Bike paths, Tennis Courts, Basketball courts and other recreational activities, and we need them, not only for recreation but to improve our overall health also.
The bike trails are a great idea, as they can double as walking paths if they are designed properly. We need bike trails and similar types of recreational activities to also draw people from surrounding communities.
