As a Rotary memeber and one of the founders of the Empty Stocking Fund, I was greatful that the Lt Governor came to the party. It is tough for the Gov to be every where at once. Thanks to Bob Terrell for having him there.
Mongiardo apoligized for the Governor's scheduling conflict and said that next year Governor Beshear and his wife would be in attendance. They had only been in office for just over a week, and we were fortunate to be able to get Dan to make it is on such short notice. Dan was very impressed with the Empty Stocking event, and also made a couple of unscheduled stops at local businesses. As a Rotary memeber I am also very greatful to Lt. Governor Mongiardo for attending on such short notice.

Beshear wanted very badly to be with us, but there were committments on the Governor's schedule that he just can't change. Lt. Governor Mongiardo recognizes the great potential we have for our people in this area. Lt. Gov. Mongiardo also is very aware of the many things being done by the Rotary Club and other civic clubs in our nation, and specifically Kentucky. Gov. Beshear will fully use his talents and will also have Lt. Gov. Mongiardo involved Tourism and Economic Development in this area.
When I attended the recent Inauguration I had a chance to talk to former Governor and Mrs. Fletcher. I told them the people of this area will always appreciate their participation in the Empty Stocking Program in Corbin. I gave them our best wishes for Christmas and the future. We have been blessed by our leaders of both political parties in supporting this program. You will enjoy getting to know Gov. and Mrs. Beshear in next year's event and you will find them very supportive and appreciative of the volunteers, vision, and compassion of our people.
As Joe Caldwell expressed so well, "this is not a political event, it is a Christmas celebration for children."

The post above mine was an excellent post.
