Since we're registered now, what's your opinions of committee members now, in or out of the city.

Now that we're all registered to post, what's all of your opinions now on the issue of out of city residents being on city committees as members and chairpersons?

I heard a story the mayor and city manager didn't like it, as they were catching flak from some over it. The consensus here was about even, but, we didn't know who was posting what until we had to register. So, what do you think?

ME !

It's a bunch of baloney. This town has had members of committees and boards that didn' live in the city limits for decades, and there is no reason to stop now. There's good people out there, and to not let them sit on a committee because they live outside the city boundary, is really stupid in my opinion. If that's the case, then the city manager himself needs to go, as he lives outside the city limits.

I know almost every single person on all the committees listed, and they are all good people. Sure I don't agree with some of their decisions and such, that's the american way. But, to not let them serve as members or chairs because of where they live, again, is crazy.

If one thing needs to change, it is for the mayor and city commissioners to get off their tails and start to try to draw people into the city to live, to give them a reason to want to be in the city.

So, what do you think fellow posters?

I think the whole issue was started by a couple of people who feel threatened by certain individuals, several of which live outside the city limits. One way to stomp out any threat or competition in their little world is to eliminate it. This is one of several ways they have attempted to do that. For those that are a threat that live in the city, they make up 3rd grade stories, undermine city programs they are involved in, and try to work their evil behind the scenes. They are whimps, plain and simple.

If this had been a real concern it would not have just come up in the year 2007. Show me any other city anywhere with such an attitude. Unfortunately a couple of people at City Hall feel if a couple of folks piss and moan about anything, they need to listen. They should instead tell these folks they have a job to do, we'll do what is best for the city, see you later, and don't let the door hit you on the way out.

We have many strong contributors that live just outside the city, and we need them.

I think you hit it on the head, the less people to choose from, the less competition for the spotlight - at least thats how these people's minds work. If their "threat" lived in the city, they would try a different approach to run them off. Pretty sad. We need anyone who will contribute in a positive mannor, and we don't need hidden agenda people, no matter where they live.

This issue was silly to begin with, and still is.

There are a few in the city that would want this, but, not the ones that really care and know how things work.

We'll soon find out in February, when some of the board members go off their boards and committees, and we see who they're replaced by, in or out of the city residents.
