Looks like we just may get to decide ourselves if we want casino gambling in our state. And, we should be able to vote on it. Thats why we have elections.
Don Estep said in a recent article that this decision should be left to our elected officials, as that's why we elected them, to decide these things.
To that I say he is partially right, but on something like this, I do not, and would not, trust their judgement on this issue. Why? Because this is a topic that is too personal to them to truly give it a totally unbiased consideration. By that I mean that if an elected official is a minister, he/she would be totally against it just because of their religious beliefs, and that's wrong. Same thing happened in our city when we voted in alcohol sales. The commissioners voted no on sunday sales, and used their personal religious convictions in their decisions. They did not take the voting public's opinions and feelings into consideration. And, that's why one of the commissioners is no longer there.
No Question, this is the voters call. I talked with an official in Louisville last week and he said just the metro area alone had lost an estimated 10 Million Dollars in tax revenues over the last 20 Months to Indiana.
Programs for the homeless, roads, tax breaks, city infrastructure would have been funded without having to raise tax's. The money now has to come from somewhere.
