Estep said it on his way out, and I agree with him. We need a permanent employee for the Tourism Commission. Better than that, that Czar needs to be over everything that even remotely relates to tourism.
We already have one on board, Sharea Myers.
She's done an excellent job with the Downtown project, and will continue to do so once she's certified. Give her the Tourism Chair position, and the Economic Development position, and we've killed three birds with one stone.
Getting rid of Estep was the first step, getting rid of Carpenter is the second step, and Sharae is already in her salaried position and answers to the mayor, so we've already got our ducks in a row here.
The Chamber of Commerce has no real function in Corbin except to have one sided political luncheons and they're now in the trailer business it appears. And, since it's designed to be composed of and ran by business people, Sharae couldn't really deal with that group. And that's fine.
If the city leaders and city manager aren't indicted for fraud over the civic center issue, maybe we can get some things done this year.
