Hey Gang

Have read over the exchanges here and can now make a few comments. I read back about three pages and found this exchange to actually be a very good debate with Excellent Points & Counter Points. I attended the city commision meetings as this issue was disscussed. This debate is better than what the Commision even talked about, I have learned a whole lot more than what was out there.

A little sarcasim but all in all this web site did exactly what it was created to do, discuss & debate. These are the kind of tough discussions the city commision should have in the future.

All of these people made VERY good points!

I agree. These exchanges have gotten us all to think about the issues. This has been a helpful discussion. Thanks to all of you who have given your opinions.

Folks--Just a humble opinion for those who currently work for the city:

Many years ago I had the opportunity to serve my community, not here but another somewhat larger city, I learned some very good lessons over my 6 years:

During each Election we learned that staying Neutral was very important, expecially when our jobs flowed like the wind and different parties coming to power always had their own different opinions on who & how to operate the city. With this philosphy we all seemed to survive an actually do quite well. We made our point when we excersized our right to vote, that's all we needed to do.

I was somewhat amused Saturday night when I saw several current City Employee's openly supporting a certain candidate, certainly their right to do so but maybe not so smart?

Be clever folks, lot's of different ways to support your candidate, this was however a school sponsored function along with a partnership with the City Recreation Dept, does this mean the School is taking a position on Candidates???? I don't think so but the School should make it clear to the city that it is Neutral and certain city Employee's do not represent the schools Political Position.

To the person who wrote and did not sign his or her name to the question about city employees "supporting a candidate during the Pigskin Classic football game last Saturday night."
Before you quote your humble opinion, first get your facts straight.

1. This game is put on by the Corbin Redhound Varsity Club and the school system lets our club use the field. They are not a sponsor, and it is not co-sponsored or in a partnership with or by the Recreation Department... as you implied.

2. The tshirts that were being shot out of the tshirt gun were gave to us by Legend Motorsports with an advertisement of their business on it. They provided us vehicles to unload the teams' equipment.

3. I and the members of the club, several who are city employees, volunteer and help raise money for all athletes (e.g. cheerleaders, band, and dance team.) We are not there to voice an opinion on candidates. We are not trying to represent anyones Political position. Please explain to me how I, or any other city employees, were openly supporting candidates in the upcoming elections?

4. I have worked and served the City of Corbin for 13 years and will support whomever is Mayor, City Commissioner, etc.

5. Please come by my office at 409 Barbourville St. or call me at the Corbin Recreation Center (528-6657) and explain to me how I, or any of the city employees, were showing our support for a certain candidate. During any election I will speak to any candidate mainly because I live and work with these people everyday of the year and consider everyone who is on the ballot a friend of mine. Also, our political transistions have always been smooth, because our new elected officials know that the employees are here to serve the citizens of Corbin.

6. I read this forum to see how people are thinking about local issues. Sometimes you learn, sometimes you laugh, and sometimes I am amazed at personal jabs people will take... and not sign their names. However, you do have that right to not sign your name. I have replied and signed my name once before when people attacked the Nibroc last year, as am I doing once more. When I go into the voting booth only myself and the good Lord above will know how I exercised my right to vote.

7. Please be a little more clever in getting your facts straight before you start quoting facts that are not accurate.

OK Marlon

You just rambled off alot of Mis-Information:

I never mentioned anything about YOU????----Your inner self getting the best of ya here??? I also NEVER mentioned anything about shooting Tee-Shirts?????? Get your facts straight as you say-----------I was given a Political card by a city employee (2-to be exact), had you asked instead of jumping to conclusions with that silly rambling about yourself, you would know what I was refering to.

2nd-----Anytime Corbin is involved it is certainly a School Sponsored Event, anytime the team takes the field the School is responsible under KHSAA rules, although Campbell Field is owned by the City and the Varsity Club hosts this event the School is still the actuall Sponsor under KSHAA Rules, this has always been the case!

As recreation Director I sure hope you Manage the recreation department better than you just did this exchange, you took NO FACTS at all in two short paragraphs and surmised things that were not there and were not said and proceeded to Ramble!!!!!

You jumped to conclusions and assumed you knew the facts as you say, ask a few more questions and you'll get the answers.

Just have to follow up on this absurd Ramblings a little more!

1. This game is put on by the Corbin Redhound Varsity Club and the school system lets our club use the field. They are not a sponsor, and it is not co-sponsored or in a partnership with or by the Recreation Department... as you implied. (It's always been a Partnership between the school & the City, as long as the City OWNS the field and Rec Dept folks help maintain it, it's a Partnership)

2. The tshirts that were being shot out of the tshirt gun were gave to us by Legend Motorsports with an advertisement of their business on it. They provided us vehicles to unload the teams' equipment.(What does this have to do with anything????????????? The Humble paragraph I wrote said nothing about this?? Who Cares?)

(OK-A Couple of City Employee's handed me Politcal Cards, not saying which Candidate they were for, but they were lobbying hard for a certain one, you may not be there (At the game) as you say to voice an opinion but these two certainly did, it's obvious you do not speak for every city employee. It's also OK that they did this, not against the law but not toooo smart)

4. I have worked and served the City of Corbin for 13 years and will support whomever is Mayor, City Commissioner, etc. (No one said you personally would not support the next Mayor, County Judge, District Judge ETC)

Also, our political transistions have always been smooth, because our new elected officials know that the employees are here to serve the citizens of Corbin.(No one has to come by your office, when that Office says MAYOR and not Recreation Director then folks may drop by)

When I go into the voting booth only myself and the good Lord above will know how I exercised my right to vote.(No one attacked here, just an opinion??-----------Your trying to spin this in to an attack)

7. Please be a little more clever in getting your facts straight before you start quoting facts that are not accurate.

(My Facts are straight, you don't speak for every city employee nor do you know what every one of them was saying and or doing that night, I never stated which candidate and or which city employee I was refering to, you took a little summary and extrapilated out some things that personally you THOUGHT pertained to you)

Pretty humorous - "ANONYMOUS" asks "Anonymous" not to be Anonymous, and posts the message as "Anonymous".

I'm sick and tired of all of these gutless, nameless "Anonymous" messages. Come on people, SHOW SOME GUTS for crying out loud.

Sincerely,
John Doe

Oh My

Here we go with "Need A Name Game"... The reason this site was established was to spur debate, the oldest trick in the book is try to "get a name" and make things personal, that way you don't have to debate the facts or situations.

How about getting back to the point "Who was politicking" on city time during the Pigskin Classic?

I believe this anonymous person might be referring to some t-shirts being worn plugging a particular candidate running for city commissioner.
