I saw a music group of local area Doctors perform in a fund raising event for Corbin's Back Pack program and they were great. They would be a great group to have for NIBROC. Dr. Watts, Dr. Curtis and several others are in the group. They are excellent musicians and the audience at Corbin High School enjoyed their performance very much. Each of the five members of the group also have good voices and each can sing the lead in many songs.
I"ve seen that group of doctors play before, and they were really good. I didn't know they still had the group. That would be an excellent group for NIBROC.
They should be announcing the planning committe very soon for nibroc. They usually start having meetings around the first of the year.
It will be interesting this year due to all the turmoil of last year.
I wonder if the NIBROC committe members read this site. IF they did, would they have the guts to ask our opinions on this years festival.
I have a question I've asked several folks, and no one knows the answer.
High school students, when applying for college, often have to have "community service hours" in order to qualify for various scholarships.
Would volunteerning for nibroc as a "flunkie" apply to this criteria.
Also, wouldn't it be nice for the whole football team, or basketball (girls or boys), volleyball, softball, etc., to volunteer for one day of nibroc, as a show of community support.
It would ba good "ride along" article for the paper to do,,,,,,,,,,,a reporter volunteer as a nibrocer one day,,,,,and not a cushy ride in a 4 wheeler job. One of the dirty jobs. Then tell us about it.
I hope the tourism people hold out for a detailed report of expenses if they give nibroc money this year. This needs to be done just to quell the storm that has come about the last year.
YOU GUYS NEED TO LET UP AND LET THE PEOPLE IN CHARGE OF THESE EVENTS WORK OUT THE PROBLEM THEY HAVE BETWEEN THIER BOARDS.DONT BE SUPRISED IF WE DONT EVEN HAVE A NIBROC THIS YEAR,OR ALEAST UNDER NEW MGT.
Baloney. There are other people who can lead the NIBROC effort. But I bet some year at the last minute the NIBROC leader will back out to make it look like it can't be done without him. There is a lot of work that has to be done for NIBROC each year. But you don't need someone leading it that is a control king who does all the talking, makes every little decision, scolds the volunteers, and wants all the credit. That is what we have now. And if he did stop doing it nobody would know where everything stands because it is a secret.
I've heard that threat year after year after year, like the show won't go on without him, and I'm sick of it. I've heard this "threat" also this year, and if that is the case than I say take him up on it and replace him immediately. Planning can continue and other people can step in. No one is irreplaceable, and the city needs team players for Nibroc and other projects anyway. Nibroc ain't Woodstock and he ain't no Bill Graham.
That is exactly what we should expect. If everything can't be his way he doesn't care about the people of our community. If we don't have a NIBROC this year I bet we will have a great one next year when some people are in charge who care about our community and not one person's selfish interests. The merchants and businesses used to have a big say in NIBROC. They are now on the outside of the Czar's program.

Says who? You are hilarious. For starters, it is not you or your boy's decision to make. Who is he, Dr. NIBROC? Who are you, Sheriff NIBROC? Also, I guess when the newspapers pick up on these childish, grade school mentality threats and start asking questions in the coming weeks, what might we hear?
No NIBROC? What's next, you gonna tell us we can't have pudding for dessert? Announce you're canceling Christmas? Taking away Summer?
Is the the mad little boy going to take his NIBROC marbels and go home and punish all the people because he can't get his way anymore? Corbin won't suffer from missing one year's NIBROC festival. And the mad little boy will always be remembered as the grinch who punished the people of this area because we wouldn't kiss his rear end anymore.
I will just go to Old Fashioned Days in Williamsburg, and take a few more weekend trips to the Barter Theatre in Abingdon, Virginia. Whe will we all remember as the dude who killed NIBROC because he couldn't get his way? And Old Fashioned Days in Williamsburg has many more local area singing groups performing as well.
I don't think everyone is going into a corner to take a cry.

If NIBROC is gone this year why doesn't the Chamber of Commerce announce it? Are they going to wait up until the last minute and announce it? This is another example, as was mentioned by a previous post, that there are people running some events who care more about their own selfish interests than they care for their com munity and the people of this area.
Nibroc was started here in 1952, folks, don't be so Naive to think this Community Event is tied to any single person or even person(s) for that matter.
ALL of these outside the city limits Board members from ALL of these different Boards, Tourism, Chamber, whatever could be replaced tommoro and Nibroc and any other Corbin Tradition will not miss a step.
People are ready now to step up an step in. The City Fathers should take note of these Squabblers who Live Outside the City, Pay no Personal Tax's which the city desperatly needs, Squabbles constantly and gets little done.
This is really Interesting:
Phony Board members who pay NO Personal Tax's, Squabbling between boards who do not even live in the city, no wonder the City Can not convince Companies to come in and join.
Back to this again? You make it sound like the only squabblers live beyond the city limits, and that all that live in the city limits are Board Member Saints. Just like the other thread, it's the people, not where their house rests. There are good and bad board members in and out of the city limits, where they live doesn't change their personalities, abilities or agendas.
To the previous Poster! It does change the Growth status of the City doesn't it? Think of the growth the city could generate in Personal property Taxes if the These Squabblers actually lived and resided in the city limits of Corbin? So it does matter to the City, financially where your house rests. There are many individuals who have abilities and talents that live inside the city, never been approached to serve on boards. So it does change the financial status of the City, and other angles of marketing that could generate growth.

As several posters keep saying, submit your list of those city dwellers you would like to see on these boards at the next board meeting, commissioners meeting or post them on here. You keep preaching this "no outsiders" theme, lets hear your "insiders" alternatives.

The big man had his yes men putting out the story that he was pulling out of NIBROC and the City of Corbin would go into a tailspin as everybody would have to go to the Chicken Festival. The sky was falling in on us and it would be like a Tsunami had just hit us. Well, it looks like there will still be a NIBROC this year because the bit man doesn't want to give up his control on this event. Many people were hoping he would throw in the towel so that NIBROC could become a community event and not a one man ego trip.
