I AM NOT SURPRISED BY YOUR POST AFTER THE ACTS WERE ANNOUNCED, BECAUSE REGARDLESS WHO THE CHAMBER BOARD, TOURISM, AND MR. CARPENTER BRING IN , PEOPLE WILL COMPLAIN. ALSO AFTER CALLING A COUPLE OF CHAMBER MEMBERS,AND ASKING THEM WHAT COMPENSATION THEY GET, THEIR REPLY WAS MANY HOURS OF VOLUNTEERING. I ALSO ASKED ABOUT THE VEHICLES YOU MADE MENTION OF THEY SAID THAT TRI COUNTY HONDA PROVIDES THOSE FOR HIS PART TO NIBROC AND THE CHAMBER PAYS FOR ALL GASOLINE, PLUS THE MOTORHOME HAS BEEN DONATED EACH YEAR BY DIFFERENT BUSINESSES AND INDIVIDUALS, AND OTHER THAN WATER THAT IS PURCHASED BY THE CHAMBER OR DONATED BY LOCAL BUSINESSES, THEY BUY FOOD FROM VENDORS ON MAIN ST. I don't believe the complaint was about Tourism. Mr. Carpenter is probably the most experienced Economic Development Director in the history of Eastern Kentucky. It is obvious that large corporations from all over the world are flocking here to meet with him. Many of them now fly into the busy Whitley County Airport and dine with him at the Airport restaurant which is in the new Four Seasons Whitley County Airport Hotel.

I don't know how he can possibly spend anytime working on NIBROC when he is so busy bringing so many jobs to our area.

READ MORE ABOUT SOME PEOPLE JEALOUS OF A GROUP OF GUYS AND GALS HELPING TO PUT ON A GREAT EVENT. SEEMS TO ME YOUR COMPLAINT, PROBLEM, ISSUE OR WHATEVER IS A PROBLEM WITH MR. CARPENTER. This year I hope Tourism will require an accounting of the way their money is used. That has not been happening in past years.

And I hope the downtown merchants are included in the planning and feel like NIBROC is good for them. It wasn't long ago when some people on this forum bragged that the big man was going to walk out on NIBROC. It was almost like a threat. It sounds like you are one of the yes men.

tourism's support for nibroc changes with the wind, I read the same papers you talk about and you would think different people ran one paper every year or so, until recently they have raised havoc with Nibroc, the bands, the expense, how the money is spent, how it hurts most downtown stores, etc. just go back and read the commentarys in one paper. I do know i can't bring my family to events like last year, and maybe starship this year but joan jet no way, what has happened to nibroc the past 10 years is sad.

I'm not quite sure how much Positive Energy is being generated by bringing in Joan Jett, 75% of the people in Corbin have never heard of this person and the one's of us who have are well aware she is not Quite the kind of Act the folks in this area even want in the State, much less Nibroc.

The Starship should be the Main attraction in my opinion. They had more known Hits than Joan Jett. Lead by Grace Slick and Mickey Thomas, the Starship was one of the most popular bands in the 80's. We built this city on rock & roll big huge hit in the 80's. Too bad that Grace is not with them, probably getting too old and tired of touring. They were also popular in the the 70's . Mickey Thomas was the lead for the Elvin Bishop Band, there big hit was "Fooled around and Fell in Love".

Joan Jett is the greatest female guitarist OF ALL TIME! She puts on a great show, and I for one am THRILLED she's coming. I love NIBROC, but this will be the first time I'll go over to watch the music. I'm telling you, the place will be packed (and rocking!)

I'll take Heart's Ann Wilson and her guitar playing of over JJ any day of the week, but thats beside the point - Nibroc is a community/family event, and JJ doesn't fit the bill. Just because the crowd is bigger doesn't mean its better, and when you sacrifice the attendence of local families, you are defeating the purpose of Nibroc. I viewed some of her recent Atlanta gig online, and she was good. Nibroc is not a Joan Jett type of event. I will however be amused when she puts on her usual show of Bush bashing, gay rights, denounces the Iraq war, laces her show with profanity and ruffles the feathers of most of this community. This will be nothing like Corbin has ever seen, unless the promoters can convince her to do a clean show and squash her right to freedom of speech, which I can promise you she won't do - she is Joan Jett. Some will like it, but many locals will not. Someone didn't do their homework.

I hate to tell ya but I have seen Joan Jett twice and the performance was terrible both times, this was however many years ago. She can in fact play very well but her Real Live voice is no where or close to the Hit records she had.

Had the chance to see Starship also and Mickey Thomas is as good in person as he is on a recording, this group was very good.

Still appreciate the effort the Nobroc folks have put into this!!!

Joan Jett roooooooocks. My girlfriend and I saw her at a Biker Rally in Wisconsin a year or so ago and are seeing her at the Pride festival in Milwaukee this summer - she is awesome.

Is Nibroc a biker rally? We are from Wisconsin and will be passing through Kentucky in August on our way to Key West.

Seems like Nibroc is continuing its trend away from being a community family event. Joan Jett? Bring back the family type acts, no way my kids will be at nibroc around this kind of show and the people it will attract.
