The Beanery Coffee House and Cafe'

Starbucks has finally hit Corbin (well, at least something similar.) A Coffee House and Cafe' called "The Beanery" finally opened last week, located downtown on Main Street at 6th Street. Very cool inside, good sandwiches, and free wireless internet. The Coffee is fair, but I believe will get better as time goes by and they get their feet wet. Felt like I was in Miami... that is, until I turned to my right, looked out the window and saw Johnny's Muffler Shop and Polka-Dots across the street.

Pretty cool place ... you're right, coffee could be a little better, pastry I had (scone) was unlike any I have ever had ... flat, soft and underbaked. I think it will get better, like the place and hope it suceeds.

Pretty busy place already... hard to get a seat at lunchtime. Very good sandwiches.

I hear they are talking about expanding already.

Service is a little slow - 5 to 10 minutes for a coffee drink is kinda long, happens every time I'm there, no exageration.

Actually, I'm Bill Gates, and me and my friends Howard Schultz of Starbucks, Elvis Presley and Darth Vader were in last week.

The best sandwiches in town. Wish they were open for dinner, but they are the best lunch option Corbin has ever had.

One of the best things to hit Corbin in awhile. I have been a Starbucks fan for years, and I have never seen a mom and pop coffee come close, but this place has very good coffee and espresso drinks, and their sandwhiches are great - partially because of the awesome bread they use.

I hope the people of Corbin appreciate the investment and hard work folks like this have put into the downtown area. We need to support The Beanery, The Depot, Vintage House and the other new businesses in the area.

Decided to try the Beanery today for the first time, and I have to agree, the food was excellent, and the staff was very curtious, but a little on the slow side. Great sandwich though, and the frozen coffee drinh I had was pretty good also. They just need to speed up the process.

I ate at the Beanery for the first time today, and the food was great. I hope they do well, it's close to my business, and downtown needs more of these types of establishments.

BE SURE NOT TO SIT IN JR'S SEAT YOU MIGHT BLOCK THE MUFFLER SHOP VIEW !!

I had a good sandwich and soup at the Beanery yesterday.  There is a friendly atmosphere and it is a nice place to visit.  Three people were working on their compu ters and it reminded me of being in a Starbucks in other parts of the country. I am glad we have the Beanery in our area.

Corbin is making some good improvements in having good restaurants and food shops.  Coming through on a trip this past weekend we stopped off in Corbin overnight. We enjoyed the new Italian Restaurant Friday night and Saturday morning we got us a cup of coffee to go as we travelled on to Atlanta.  The Beanery is a nice coffee shop. This new approach in this area should help this area grow in the future and actually attract some people to want to retire and get out of the big city life.

Why so mean-spirited?  If JR wants to drink coffee, let him, for goodness sakes!  Did you ever think you may be hurting someone's feelings?  And as far as the Beanery goes, great food and coffee, but they really need to speed it up.......some of us can't spend 10 minutes waiting for a latte that should and could take SECONDS to prepare.

Had a great sandwhich there last week, and the best espresso I've had in Kentucky. Cool place for Corbin, hope they do well.

So someone likes to eat there and is comfortable enough to frequent often.. SO WHAT? Why is there so much 'drama' about NOTHING? Gosh Corbin.. grow up and find something to complain about that will make a difference for the good. So many ill natured folks out there. Try smiling a little and passing along a kind word as you hold the door for someone, preferably a stranger. That's just a few ways to be nice. Try it, we'll like it. I like looking at the muffler shop myself and if I was to sit in Jr's seat, I'm sure he'd understand :) We'd just share a table. Now.. just don't sit in MY seat!!

All in all. The food here is delicious. The coffee is wonderful. Priced to be expected and if they take a little time to prepare it know that it's going to be right.

Great Place for Lunch!  The salads are great.  The chicken ceasar salad is better than what some of the bigger restaurants offer.  The coffee is as good as Starbucks.

The Beanery is a good place to have lunch or just stop in for coffee. I am glad we have a place like that downtown. Good luck to the Beanery.

It's good to have a place like the Beanery. I enjoy going there several times a week. Corbin is getting some good variety in their restaurants-coffee shops.

Can't wait to see their bakery open.  We haven't had a real bakery since the Clover Top closed.

I'd love some real, yeast donuts.

The only thing better would be a Krispy Kreme store.

Yes, we all miss the Clover Top!!  Hopefull the Beanery will serve up real homemade, and not boxed mix, bakery items.  What a welcome addition to Corbin!  I think the key is to set yourself apart from the pre-made stuff.  Enough with Walmart already!!  I can still remember the smell and taste of those not-so-perfectly shaped gingerbread men in the cases at the Clover Top.  We desperately need the imperfections home-baked, rather than the half-baked stuff from the retailers nowadays!

Oh, Lordy, did I LOVE those gingerbread men from Clover Top when I was little.  Funny, I believe their original location was very near where the Beanery is now located....

First let me thank everyone for their support and patronage of our little cafe.  When we started The Beanery we had no idea of the support that we would receive.  We own several small companies and one of the pitfalls of that is that you must divide your time between all your businesses and maintain a careful balance so they can be successful.  Do to the wonderful success of our main business (CIS) we have not been able to effectively manage the products and service focus that is needed at the Beanery.  And unfortunately it is extremely hard to find someone willing to love a business they way an owner would and be able to manage that business with the same passion.  So rather than allow a substandard product or service continue we have decided to shutdown the Beanery until further notice.   So refined our choices down to two: one is currently is to entertain selling the beanery to someone who can continue what we have started.  The other choice is to keep it closed until we can find the right person and time to ensure that Corbin can have a quality cafe.  I apologize that we are unable to give you exact dates of when we will be returning but as things change I will keep posting.  Thanks again to everyone who has stopped by and those that wanted to.

E. Greer
