RE: The Restaurant Tax

We went out to eat three times last week, at serving restaurants, for various reasons (birthday, anniv, meeting) and I kept the receipts for some reason. In all, I paid $12 in restaurant taxes. I would have paid that in gas in one trip to lex or knoxville alone.

You could of saved that $12.00 if you went to London.

What are you talking about? You could've saved that if you went to London? Their restaurant tax is 6%, not 3% like in Corbin. And why would a Corbinite go to London to help their economy and not our own? Could you clear this up for me?

I live in the city, and I like the idea of every time I go to eat now, knowing that just a few cents are going to our tourism development for the city. I'd sure rather pay this than the occupational tax.

Not only the civic center, but, all tourism.

Also, as I read in the paper the other day, construction of soccer fields and other community projects. I don't know one person that even thinks about this tax when they pay their tab at a restaurant, and with all of the out-of-towners eating at the Corbin's South exit, the minimal investment by area residents is well worth it. In fact, it was rediculas that Mayor Miller delayed implementing this tax nearly a year for no reason, costing Corbin Tourism approximately $800,000 because of his poor judgement.

Also, as I understand it, London has or will be implementing a 6% restaurant tax? Is this correct? Guess that shoots down one person on here with motives to sway people to London. Plus, we have better restaurants here than in London. I'll take Vintage House over any of London's current or "Coming Soon" restaurants.

I agree. We will have a wonderful recreation area for our young people. And the Vintage House is an outstanding restaurant.

London does not have a restaurant tax, besides that all the Corbinites that do not want to be seen drinking are in London, Richmond, Lexington or Knoxville, not supporting Corbin.

You hit that nail on the head, speaking of the corbinites that don't want to be seen drinking are in London or other towns.

Many of those so called "religious" rally attendees and "Vote No" sign posters, are usually in London or Richmond at least every other week. How do I know, I SEE THEM THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Two of them that were interviewed in the paper back during the vote, I spoke to at Red Lobster, with a "cold one" on their table.

So, London has no restaurant tax?????

I was sure I read it in the "Corbin Times", sorry, "Times Tribune" that they had implemented one.

Yeah, the "Tribune" should be called the "South Laurel Times". They have more london news and sports than they do of corbin and williamsburg.

I wonder what the ratio of advertising is, london vs. corbin.

I think we could get those answers if they would show us their Books, problem here is Estep is hiding the Information and will not let it out?

Sounds as if tourism and the nibroc chairman could be in together.

Nothing like keeping public records of tax receipts locked up to get people to asking questions.

Maybe the state police forensic accountants need to take a look.

We ate at the Depot and Vintage House this month, as well as a couple McDonalds and Wendy's visits with the kids.

We paid a total of around $8 in restaurant tax.  And we didn't pay for extra gas to the cities.

And, that $8 will help pay for much more things that we enjoy here.

We were eating up at the hospital for lunch one day, and was setting beside a group of employees eating also.  One of them commented about their bill being higher due to the local restaurant tax.  They all began to all complain, and I asked the table, "Are any of you ladies from corbin?"  Their replies were 1 London, 2 Manchester, 1 Barbourville, 1 Mt. Vernon.

I just thanked them and continued eating.

My point,,,,,,,,,,,,the city is making money off of these people every day, through occupational taxes, and now restaurant taxes, where we didn't get a penny before.  The other point, ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,why don't we have more people from corbin working there.

Thank You.

You're right, but, I don't live in london, I live in corbin. I would rather pay a $12 tax to corbin than to pay anything for london.
