RODEO/RALLEY IN THE VALLEY

I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE THIS TIME TO CONGRATULATE THE CORBIN TOURISM BOARD, JOE WHITE, DONNIE LLOYD, AND OTHER PARTICIPANTS IN THESE EVENTS WHICH I THOUGHT BOTH WAS A VERY GOOD SUCCESS.  EACH EVENT HAD I GREAT TURNOUT FROM WHAT I SAW.  THESE TWO ORGANIZATIONS HAVE SPENT ALOT OF TIME AND EFFORT TO PUT THESE EVENTS ON FOR THE PEOPLE OF CORBIN AND SURROUNDING AREAS.  I THINK YOU ALL DID AND GREAT JOB, PAT YOURSELVES ON THE BACK.

THANKS

TOWN OF CORBIN KENTUCKY

RE:       RALLY IN THE VALLEY IN CORBIN KENTUCY

We are from Nashville, Tennessee.  My boyfriend and I, plus two other individuals from Michigan visited the Rally in the Valley on Friday, September 15 & 16, 2006.  What a joke this supposed rally was to everyone who attended.

First, this was my first visit to Corbin.  We have attended a number of Bike Rallies this year and previous years.  We found this rally very boring, no camping, restricted areas for alcohol consumption and just down right DULL..  I believe this was an area owned by the Town, so why was the areas limited to a fenced-in area or guarded building?  Food vendors and vendors were very disappointed in the attendance and the way the rally was organized.  Most or all food vendors left before Saturday morning!  How disappointing!  We only went back on Saturday to get barbeque from a vendor we visited on Friday. (Vendors were told there would be a high attendance.  What a big story the organizers told them!  They should be ashamed of themselves!)  There were maybe 750 people total there includes workers.

The only things in Corbin we enjoyed were the riding in the country and going to Cumberland Falls.  The local restaurants were very good too.  We will only return to the area for those reasons.  NOT FOR A FUTURE BIKE RALLY.  If local money was spent for advertising or promotion, please DO NOT waste the money in the future.  Make a donation to a worthy cause instead.  People will come to Corbin anyway.

Believe me, I will tell all of my biker friends not to waste $10 a day for a poor rally.  (which is more expensive than most organized rallies that provide camping).Don’t embarrass your Town like this in the future.  Just welcome bikers!

Thank you,

Marti Rubsam

I agree with the previous writer.  Going back to where we heard about the rally was the magazine "Thunder Roads". Closer inspection indicates that the Corbin Tourism Commission DID spend money on this event.  How Much? Who got the benefit of the Local, Federal, State funds?

How many citizens have to be taken advantage of for the misuse of funds?  Was it the organizer who took advantage of the Toursium Board in order to line his pockets a bit?

My suggestion to the Tourism Commission is to still advertise in the biker magazines as Corbin having beautiful hills and quite country roads to ride on.  Make a point that the town is motorcycle friendly.

Below was found on the Bike in the Rally web site.  Please go in and take a look at the pictures from the rally.  Surely they didn't take these pictures to show the poor response.  But that is  exactly what they got pictures of.  What a poor advertisement for the Rally even on their own web site.  Good grief, if I viewed a Rally like this before I went, I wouldn't have attended.  Check out the building where the music was played.  Count how many people you see.  Also like the previous writer has written about the vendors.  These poor people were starving for business.  Wonder how much they had to spend/lose to be there?

Please forward my response/complanint to the appropriate officals that will check out this misuse of Tourism money that the organizer STOLE.

Sponsored by Corbin Tourism Commission, CompuTax, LLC, R.S.C., and 4 Evergraphics
Held at the Corbin Civic Center and Grounds beginning at an noon on Thursday.  The event will feature slow drags, a burnout pit, ride in bike show, swap meet, vendors, entertainment, music. a biker build-off, and more. For more information call (606) 521-9393,

click here to send e-mail, or go to http://corbinrallyinthevalley.com.

We went to that rally too from Harlan it was not rally it was like a yard sale. Waste of gas and time.  Heard about it from a friend that went last year, he said it would probably be better this year since they had a trial run last year and must have learned to put it together.  If they have another rally next year even free I won't go. I doubt the person would want to embarrass him or herself by what is being spread through the bikers and at other rallies.  Word does travel fast.  Most of these people all talk about the good, bad and ugly rallies.

Good for the first lady that decided to complain instead of just talking about it. glad we visited the site to see what may be going on in Corbin this fall.

I hear that!! We heard how bad that Rally in the Valley was in Corbin, Kentucky when I was at the Boogie II outside of Cookeville, TN last weekend.  It will go even further this weekend at the Centerville, TN rally!

Be careful bad advertisement moves faster than good.  Everyone with a bad experience will tell at least 6 people.

Let's hear from more of you!

I to would like to comment on the rally in Corbin. I was very dissapointed in the trun out and we drove from Memphis Tn. Quite a way for nothing. The lady is right about it being beautiful but they would have to really change stuff to make that trip worth it in the future. Good thing we love Ky.  The litature was misleading and we won't trust it again.

we came from bowling green instead of the rally there. Maybe the organizer needs to get out a bit or change the location to  a private place.  bring in vendors, more than 2.  (food that is) only thing to get to eat was inside the building where the band was on saturday.  Beers $3.00? And you were babysat while you drank a beer or ate.

Could somebody tell me what a bike rally is.  It sure sounds like the people who went to that Rally in the Valley were dissappointed.  Is this like a car show or bicycle or motorcycles. Must be behind the times.  Good luck with your mission to make someone hear your voices.  Still what is a bike rally?  I'm looking forward to visiting Corbin this fall to visit family and see the Falls and friendly people in Corbin and the views that everyone talks about. Retired in Phoenix

TO THE CITY OF CORBIN KENTUCKY

I read the article in the Corbin Paper about how many people where at the Rally in the Valley and was amazed at the obvious non shallot way the attendance was taken to be gospel. I was there all three days and from my view point it was a total disaster. The attendance from what I counted was less than 700 and that was on Saturday. Thursday and Friday was less than 300. The venders pulled out on Friday it was so bad. Who ever gave the paper that number is either lying because he wants more money for his next event. I feel sorry for the people that let this so called promoter scam them out of there money. I hope the City didn’t give him any. Sponsors beware of this person or persons. The paper also said that there were 150 riders for the ride that was for the guy that got killed at Sturgis. I was on that ride and there were only about 70 riders. I sere hope the money donated goes to his wife and kids. We were told that was what the ride was for. The volunteers that was helping put on the rally were very nice I can’t believe they were not paid because according to the papers 7,100 people where there so that equals out a cool $71,000 in the promoters money grubbing pocket.

I would like to say that the Rally in the Valley was wonderful and a huge success in my opinion. The rides were fantastic and there was a good amount of money raised to give to the Relief Fund on the Mike Driggers Memorial Ride.

I think it is wonderful that you can go to an event like this and be comfortable enough to take your children and your grandchildren. The bike games were hilarious and the music was great.

I personally would like to thank Joe Butch and Shakey for all their hard work and all the countless volunteers that help to put on this event yearly.

Keep up the good work!

My family and I were passing through the area and stopped to see the Ralley in the Valley. We enjoyed it very much. Some of these negative comments sound like someone has sour grapes for an event that was held for a very honorable purpose. The Corbin area should keep holding these types of events. Next year when we pass through again we will check this website for the schedule. We often use this website.

Be assured that the first letter IS NOT sour grapes!  I do not even live in Corbin.  Sounds like to me the promoter finally got my e-mail of how bad the rally was and was told I had posted my comments on this site.  Guess he's getting a little ansy, considering he already has a date scheduled for next year.  Bet he is sweating getting that $$$ again.  I am curious about the benefit also.  How much of that money went to the promotion and NO money went to the family.  We we were watching some of the "so called" games a relative of theirs was standing next to me and reported they have not received and money.  If I'm not mistake there was something mentioned about another trip where no money was received.  Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Let me begin by saying I had a great time at the Rally . It was a family event that I would

not hesitate to bring my grandchildren to . There are those that were looking for something

different . Those people are not going to be happy at a Rally such as ours . No matter how

hard you work or how hard you try to please them , they will only be happy when you have

drunk  naked  virgins giving them free lap dances . Then they would still find something to

complain about !  Rally in the Valley is only 2 years old . I think it will continue to get better

each year . An atmosphere of "good people" who can share the same passion for motorcycles.

Good clean fun and fellowship with some of the nicest people you could ever meet .

Both years at the RITV , a new motorcyle was given away . Thousands of motorcyles to

look at . Good music , good food , good people ... what more could you ask for . I really

enjoyed meeting Tina Wesson . If the Rally had been a drunken partie , Tina Wesson

would not have participated .

As for you Mr. Lloyd , God bless you and your efforts !  It takes a "giving" person like Mike

and yourself  to understand , let alone participate .  While others are working for Fema to

get rich ,    you were working for free . Mike Driggers did the same . And it was in that spirit

that the money was raised on the Mike Driggers Memorial ride .

You will never please everyone , no matter how hard you try . Sad but true

WTF !! are you talking about. You must be mental.   This has to be the most gross generalization without an ounce of logic statement I have ever read.

Statements like yours above will really get people interested in attending this area again!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Im not attacking personaly just my opinion also. The way I see it you will have more of a chance next year getting drunk naked virgins giving free lap dances than VENDORS AND SPONSORS.  Sorry!!! Just quoting you.

It takes time for anything new to take off, and this event is no exception. Those that are comparing this event to other, more established ones should think about this. Also, have those folks that are truly disatisfied and want to be critical about this event, ever volunteered to help organize and run this type of thing, in the first few years of it's history.

Do you think the major rallies didn't have any issues the first years they were held?

And let's not forget the weather. Maybe a warmer time of year would help.

And, state and local laws have a lot to do with all the activities at these rallies. So, what you can do at Sturgis, or Daytona or Myrtle Beach, you can't do here.

Keep trying, and eventually it'll come around.

I agree. It does take time to get some events established but keep trying. In a few years these can be big events for our area.

I've heard yesterday that this rally was NOT going to happen this year, is that true? I hope not.

Just change a few things, I'm sure you've gotten comments from many about the rally.
