RE: Circuit Court Clerk

I do not understand what kind of game the Local Newspapers are trying to pull over the people of Whitley county. In today's Times Tribune there was an article that claimed Burley Foley got the county out of debt???? Very sneaky and misleading much worse to the average eye than what the News Journal had. WHITLEY COUNTY IS STILL IN MILLIONS OF DEBT!!!! FLETCHER'S NON-ELECTED, APPOINTED Judge Executive was part of the voting process that put Whitley County in 18 million Dollars worth of debt. Yes, Burley Foley was a magistrate that voted with The judge and other magistrates during that 5 year period that SUNK the County into this tremendous debt.

Here is something that is really bothering me about this Times Tribune article in today's paper. The writer keeps claiming Burley Foley inherited this debt.
How did Foley inherit this DEBT when he was a Magistrate and voting with the JUDGE EXECUTIVE and other Magistrates' on all County buisness???? This TIMES TRIBUNE writer should know this since he has been covering the local news for most of Foley's tenure as Magistrate? Foley never inherited anything!!! No matter how these Journalist spin their Headlines, WHITLEY COUNTY is still in major trouble. Hat's off to Foley for his effort to stay in and try to do the right thing. But the way I see it, that doesn't justify the past 5 years of helping sink Whitley County into such Massive debt that you have to slap the people in the face with a 1% payroll tax, then current (elected Judge PATRICK) says to the people of the County that elected him I QUIT!!!!! Then GOVERNOR FLETCHER make a stunning move and Appoints the person that helped create the massive DEBT as JUDGE EXECUTIVE?????????. AND( PATRICK) the one that told Whitley Countians I QUIT!!! Get's hired on with the State.??? WOW!! I wonder what job Foley is going to get in 2007?????????? The News Journal and Times Tribune need to ask themselves when they look in the mirror each day why they are having to fork out a 1% payroll TAX to Whitley County. In my opinion, I guess it's getting pretty close to election time again. WHY in the world are the local newspapers spinning headlines like Foley has brought Whitley County out of debt??? If the local newspaper reporters or their Editors can let all of the people of Whitley County know now when the PAYROLL TAX is going to ceased, that would be so Gracius on there part first, since they are the ones making headlines like Whitley County is now out of Debt.. THUMB DOWN!!!! To the -----NEWS JOURNAL AND ESPECIALLY TO THE------TIMES TRIBUNE.

I assume the last posting was not an attack on the Terrell Family. I hope not. Both Bob Jr. and Sr. are good and decent men who care for this community deeply. As many lifelong residents of this area know who the "POWER PEOPLE" are we also are aware that they will stop at nothing to enhance thier personal gains. There should be no power structure. We all should want what is best for OUR community regardless of who we try to perceive ourselves to be. The "POWER PEOPLE" think that they are beyond reproach because of their wealth and treat others accordingly. There will come a day when they realize that, as far as I know, A hearse has never pulled a U-HAUL.

I couldn't agree more with this comment. The Terrell's are good people! "The good guys finish last". So many folks just aren't aware of the 'power people' struggle to stay afloat. They use the good folks to step on in their attempts to stay on top. The Terrell's are good and decent men and our community is high on their priority list. The shame is that the piranha's aren't wanting or willing for the good men to be a part of their team.

The Terrell's are a family to be well respected but they are as we all are... below the 'power people' and we all get stepped on. No, it's not right but it's going to happen on a daily basis. Get off of the grade school back biting and realize how to separate the good and the evil. There is a difference ya' know! Again, "the good guys finish last." Both Bob's are in that 'good' list.

Question: Knowing the Good and the Evil.. who would you choose? The good guys may finish last but they hang in there to finish. That says a lot in itself!

I agree with you on most points, but I don't know if the statement that we and the Terrell's are "below the power people" is the right way to phrase it. Bob Terrell has accomplished more in one month of his life than these "Piranhas" have in a lifetime, and has done more good for other people than these "Piranhas" have even thought about. Bob Terrell is respected throughout our country and worldwide, and instead of being appreciative and proud of Bob, his hard work and his compassion like most of us are, the "Piranhas" hate him because he unintentionally steals their thunder. They can't hold a candle to him, and it kills them.

Bob Terrell has always finished first in his life, and in much larger arenas than the "Corbin, KY political scene", while being a "Good Guy". Corbin unfortunately isn't like most other places, and lets the "Piranhas" run much of our show. That is why we are losing ground to the rest of the world, when in reality we have more potential than the towns that are now moving ahead of us.

I know who I would want to go to battle with, because these "Piranhas" flee even their friends and families when the fight gets tough. We have all seen it happen time and time again with these people, stepping on other people to make a nickel to look high and mighty - you would think we would have learned our lesson by now.

I was scratching my head also - "WHITLEY COUNTY CLOSES OUT YEAR DEBT-FREE" - what is Fred Petke thinking? Fred is a good guy, but this story is irresponsible to say the least. Debt Free? $800,000 in debt in 2005?

Do your research Fred, you are better than that. Read what is going in your paper Bill Hanson, you are better than that also, and this story is an embarrassment to your paper.

Oh not to misunderstand my comment. By my statement of 'power people' I dare to disregard that Bob Sr. is not in highest but in a different category. Oh by far, in fact I meant that the 'power people' in Corbin, well we all know who they are and are trying to be, want not of Bob Sr. as they know he won't lie down and rest with the dogs. Bob Sr. is to be respected in the highest regard. Oh no.. those "power people" is but a spin on words with those who think they are! Those guys do step on all in front of them to get to what they consider, is the top! Me.. the top is making a difference for the good. To them.. the top is raping folks of their hard earned money, cheating society with lower standards to pocket the money and getting away with it ....and much, much more.

My hat's always off the both Terrell's. To know them is to love and respect them for their beliefs and their efforts to make a difference. I know of no one that can hold a candle to Sr. for sure! They'll all still try though :) He is in a different category indeed. He's a real person with real idea's. He's in the 10% of society. The other 90% are the piranah's that we all have to sift through to FIND the
10%er's. Those 10%er's are the good. The 90%er's are the evil.

No Question Bob T. is a good guy, anybody that can read could easily read his resume and tell he was by far the most Qualified person we have had in Years to run for ANY office in Whitley, Knox or Laurel Counties, just not many Folks with Bob's worldwide Experience.

Unfortunatley the Reality of running County Races must be handled differently, many folks in the Lower End absolutley did not know Bob and he had to try and get his message out Quickly, Bob also lost Key Precincts in which Mr. Sharp who Ran for Jailer did very well in, Mr. Sharp was also a Democrat.

Had Bob carried these Key County Precincts that Sharp did well in he would be County Judge come Monday morning, a good race by all. Don't think we have seen the last of Bob, I would say Learn and Re-Commit to running again.

You have a Powerful Base in Corbin, Work some of the Old political families a little better next time and you will win!

Thank you for the kind comments about my son and me. I knew when I ran for Judge Executive as a 73 year old and a Democrat it would be tough to win. But I was tired of watching the working people in our County being abused by a poorly managed system. At my age and based on the fact that my stamina isn't what it used to be, I still believed I would be a better choice because I knew I didn't owe any of the power group any favors, and I knew I had never, and would never try to profit from any inside deals. As a member of management in three different companies I knew how painful it was when we had to reduce our manpower and lay off people. This was always a personal burden to me. In the summer of 1953 as a student I worked in a summer job interviewing unemployed people who were submitting claims for unemployment insurance. My friend Jimmy Watkins and I travelled to Manchester, Hyden, and McKee every other week and most of those persons out of work were coal miners, and auto workers who were laid off and came back from Michigan and Ohio to live with their Kentucky families. When a person has been working 15 to 20 years and is middle aged and suddenly their industry falls flat they are drastically hurt. A person without a job has a special stress that can ruin their health. That summer made a real impact on me as I got to know many of those people as they searched for another job in an area that did not have any jobs. I guess thats why I take up for those who don't have any power. Many of those coal miners started working in the mines when they were only 13 or 14 years old. During that period the Diesel Engine for trains also hurt jobs in the Railroad industry. One of my buddy's father lost his RR job at age 50 and in two years he was dead. I believe he died of a broken heart.

I lost the election and while it hurt, I am over it and sleeping a little later in the morning isn't a bad way to do things as I head toward my 74th birthday in June.
I promise you that until they bury me someday I will continue to speak up on the issues and I will do everything I can to help the people of this area. My wife, my son Bob, and my daughter Linda were a lot of help to me as I recovered from my
heart problems in 2004. And the cards, letters, and phone calls lifted my spirits in 2004 during my illness and in January, 2006 I was fired by the Corbin Industrial Commission. There are a lot of fine people in our community and I wish our new Mayor Willard McBurney and our Commissioners four great years. Happy New Year and best wishes to all of you.

Bob Terrell, Sr.

Mr. Terrell,
You're such a fine and upstanding man. A bulldog of sorts. Facing thing head on and not backing down. Courageous even you seem. You run for any office and you've got my vote You are a 'real' person. You're well rooted in life and not too many folks I can say that about. (By the way, that is a compliment)

This has nothing to do with the Circuit Clerks Office but I"m unable to respond otherwise. The last last few postings praising Mr. Terrell are absolutly on target.

I have known Bob for only about four years, and find him to be among the most honest and upbeat persons I have ever been privaleged to know. From my experencience in both The United States Navy and The United States Marine Corps, I understand what honor, pride and integrity means. Bob Terrell is all of these things.

As a youth in this community, I was always told of Mr. Terrell and his accomplishments and learned to admire him for just that. Now that I have gotten to know him as a person, those beliefs are only strenghtened. I am proud to be acquanted with him.

In 2004, I ran for Whitley County Jailor and was defeated. That process of our political system taught me a lot about people and what their priorities are. It still hurts after these four years, knowing that my motivations in running were good in intent. Bob"s was no different. At least we tried.

Thank you, Bob, for the person you are and for helping me retain a reason to care.

None of us like to see young people get in trouble, but sometimes having to pay for our descretions makes us more likely to take things more seriously the next time. I hope our Clerk and his family get things ironed out.

Looks like trouble has reared its ugly head again, but in a town where daddy probably doesn't have connections. What will happen to the lad now?

The last two days have not been good news days for two of Whitley County's power broker families. Plus the fact the family's Italian Restaurant is not doing well. Maybe the Governor will get them all a lifetime pardon. After all they are the royalty of Whitley County.

I agree with the prior post a few minutes ago. And hurrah to the Times Tribune for their coverage of the legal news the past two days. They were there with the news and were not afraid to give us the facts. That is very encouraging.

Am I correct in saying that his probation issue here depends on the findings in florida. If he is found guilty, and that includes a plea bargain, there, his original sentence here goes into effect.

This will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Hopefully the Times Tribune gave us the Facts. Or did they?? Let's hold off on the Hurrah's until we hear another Local papers inside scoop. Remember the phony Smokecreens used on two articles recently?

This looks like a legit story. I snooped around and found the website for the Clerk of the Circuit Court in Hernando County - www.clerk.co.hernando.fl.us - and if you click the "search our online records" tab on the right side of the page, then select the "Criminal" link, then under name type in "Barton", you can actually access the criminal case record. Everything in the paper is accurate.

Why should the kid go to jail? He is in a family along with some others from Williamsburg who should not be held to the standards the rest of us must face. Remember, they are the elite and the privileged. They are the Kennedy's of Whitley County. We must bow to them and treat them as royalty. They are our superiors.
