Redhound Basketball

Corbin's basketball team has looked very good in their first two games. They have an excellent defense and many offensive weapons with some good depth.  It looks like Redhound Basketball will be very strong in these next several years.  Josh Crawford is playing with a leg infection and he is showing strong leadership along with Josh Hamllin.  This should be a very good year for Corbin's boys basketball team.  Coach Pietrowski and his staff have brought this young team along very well.

This does look like a fun team to watch because they hustle at a high level the full game. They have some reserves that look very good, and this is a good year to support the Redhounds.

The Redhounds had a close one last night. The Freshman Johnson had a great game. Josh Crawford is still bothered with an infection in one knee.  He made some very good passes and he will come around real good as he gets over his knee problem.  At times last night Corbin had three freshmen on the floor together. They also have some good sophomores coming along as well. Good luck Redhounds!

Corbin's young team played well last night against Knoxville Catholic after losing a close on Thursday night at Bell County. Tony is giving his young players some good playing time and this should help the team have strong depth as the season goes on.  Friday night the young Redhoud team will get a real test when they play South Laurel, one of the State's best teams.

The Redhounds will be up against a powerhouse Friday night when they take on South Laurel. They will probably have some real problems matching up with S. laurel but I believe Corbin will improve and become stronger as the season moves along.

South Laurel has a fine team and Corbin's young Redhounds put up a good fight in this game. I believe as the season goes along Corbin will be even more competitive against real good teams. South Laurel has had an outstanding team in recent years and their coach is one of the best high school coaches in the state.

No question a Good Basketball Team but no more Young Team Excuses.

Last night against Jackson Co. our three point shooting was excellent. We had trouble stopping their big man inside. Crawford shot well the last half from the free throw line. He still looks like he is having some problems with his knee. South Laurel still holds the upper hand in this region. Other teams are catching up on them.

The 13th Regional basketball tournament will be at Corbin High School in March. We hope both the Corbin Boys and Girls Basketball team will competing in this tournament. This will be a big event and attract a lot of people to our area. Let's roll out the red carpet to our guests who visit us for this tournament. Go Redhounds!

South Laurel looked very good last night when they beat our Redhounds very soundly. Whitley County's Girls Team played well against Corbin and followed that victory up with a big win over South Laurel.

South Laurel's boys look like they will go back to the Sweet Sixteen again this year, and Clay County, Whitley County or South Laurel look like the favorites in the Girls Regional.

The 13th Region should be well represented.

Witnessed one of the best High School basketball games I have ever seen tonight when Corbin beat Bell County in overtime 66-64 on a last second three-pointer.

No exaggeration - an awesome, awesome game.

Corbin plays South Laurel County in the 13th Region Championship game Tuesday night, 7:30pm at Corbin High School.

The Redhounds victory last night was one we will long remember. Corbin and Bell County gave a great effort and a last second three point shot by Johnson, the Corbin freshman, put another chapter in Corbin's basketball history.

The second game last night was a terrific game as well. Cumberland's four guard one center offense almost pulled the upset of the year in their five point loss to South Laurel. Cumberland had a lot of patience, and up until the last two minutes shot great from the outside. Cumberland's zone defense gave South Laurel headaches, but in the end South Laurel's depth and senior leadership pulled this one out. I agree with the previous poster this was basketball at its best.

I look forward to seeing the Championship tonight. We need to pack the house tonight.

One of the best Nights ever for High School Sports in Corbin. "What a Game"

The Championship game was another hard fought game. South Laurel's ability to make free throws in the last four minutes of the game was the difference. Proffit, Smith, and Hammonds made 59 out of the 66 points for South Laurel. Corbin's young team gave a great effort and nearly came from behind to win at the end.

Corbin should be a powerhouse in the next several years. This has been a Regional Tournament we will long remember. Good luck to South Laurel in the Sweet Sixteen, and good luck to Clay County's girs team that starts action today in Bowling Green.

I agree. The semi-finals and the final game in the 13th Regional Boys finals were outstanding basketball. The boys at Cumberland, Bell County, Corbin, and South Laurel made that one of the best tournaments I have ever seen.

Corbin High School did a fine job managing the tournament. It was sad that some fans could not get in the final game, but the Fire Marshall has to make tough decisions sometimes. That's why they serve us. When Corbin's Exposition Center is built that would be a great place for the Regional Tournament. That will not be Corbin's normal homecourt. The fans would not have to leave after the first game. There would be comfortable seats and lot's of room.

I spent time with some out of town fans and they had a great time. I especially enjoyed talking to some of Clay County, Bell County, Pineville, and Cumberland's fans. This tournament was a huge success.

Corbin High School should be commended for a well organized and well run tournament. It is a shame there was not another 1,000 seats. That was a standing room only game with some people unable to get in because of the fire safety rules.

It was a super tournament. Corbin High School hosted it very well. The teams gave an awesome effort, and the crowds and cheering helped make it the best Regional Tournament I can ever remember. Of course, as a Redhound fan I was disappointed we did not win the championship, but Corbin improved so much this season and always gave a spirited performance.

I also thought Cumberland, and Bell County played great in the Semi-finals. It is tough to lose close ones like that but South Laurel won their last two games of the tournament by a total of 7 points. At the start of the season most experts felt they would breeze through the Region. South Laurel had leadership on the floor as well as on the bench, and they made the shots in the clutch. Coach Pietrowski also did a fine job this season. He should have some excellent teams these next few years. Thanks to the teams and coaches of the 13th Region for giving us such an exciting season and good luck to South Laurel in the State Tournament.

Corbin's State CH. Game

Corbin could have easily been the winner's of that tournament BUT the ref's didn't see that in Corbin's final game the opposing team had SIX player's on the floor for the last 45 seconds of the game! It was recorded even but the ref's said they didn't see it with all the excitement and, in the last few seconds of the game.. the SIXTH person walked right off the floor and sat down as their team cheered them on! That would have been a technical and Corbin would have had the ball and had two free throws. Hmm... a 2 point loss.. ??... I would have taken those odds. Too bad their team had to cheat to get past Corbin's awesome team. That's alright though.. we'll see them again soon enough.

Corbin did a wonderful job holding this regional tournament. My hat's off to the people involved in making it work so smoothly. Coach P... you did a great job!!

RE: Redhound Basketball

Wow! What a Super year for Redhound BBall!!!!!!! Just an all around Great Experience!!!

I would say However that in Light of Corbin's great perfprmance South Laurel has still won 35 Straight Games against District foes, this makes the case to go to a Class System. The same thing would exist in Football, South has dominated this sport too against Local Teams but has to Jump to District action against lexington Schools, where they belong.

Nothing against South, a super program with great folks at the helm. They should however be paired against teams who have similar young men & women to pick from. This years Corbin basketball team did great, but that unfortunately is more the exception than the rule.

I would hope that before South runs their Winning streak to 100 or somewhere close that the powers that be give small schools like Willimasburg a chance!

It should be a great year for CHS basketball and for the next couple of years following. The players are getting bigger and bigger. We should be able to match up with a bunch of teams. We have the luxury of having Josh Crawford who can defend most any center that we will see in our region. When we dont have a big center to defend, Josh can move to the wing or guard spot and pose a matchup problem for the other team. We will need some depth at the guard spots but by tournament time, hopefully we will have found the depth. We seem to have plenty of 6'3-6'5 size players. We even have a couple of "projects" at 6'6 and 6'8 that could turn out to help the team over the next couple of years.

Its almost roundball time. A little "string music" in Corbin is just around the corner. Expectations are high for the young Hounds this year after being robbed of a chance to go to RUPP by some contraversial no calls. It looks like we'll have a deep bench and that is what it takes to win in March. We probably have more size than any team in the past several years. After looking at the schedule, there are plenty of tough games in store for the Hounds but it will only make them stronger at Tournament time in March. Cant wait!

He has recovered even better than expected due to his work ethic off the court.
He will be much better and stronger than last season.
