RE: Redhound Basketball

The more fans that come to Corbin, the more gas, food, etc that is purchased. It sounds like that same people that run the Chamber are running the Varsity Club.

Should be a good game tonite. I hope the hounds make it to the final game, as there is some tough looking competition out there this year.

I wish there were at least two more locally oriented teams though. Maybe next year.

The Redhounds lost a tough one last night. Coach Pietrowski used his reserves very effectively and Corbin made a comeback in the second half and came close to winning at the end.

The great news is that Josh Crawford made his first appearance of the year and played very well. His playing time was limited because they don't want to rush him back to quickly. He was a real force and showed why he is the top player in the 13th Region.

The Redhounds have had a busy schedule the past two weeks and need a little time to rest their weary legs. Rogers came off the bench and his three three point shots in a row brought Corbin back. He went out with an injury but it does not seem to be one that will keep him out of playing when needed.

The tournament this year has some tough competition. Jackson County won last night in their consolation game and they will be a tough team in the 13th Region when the tournaments are going in late February. If you don't go to tonight's final games you will be missing some enjoyable and tough games.

The Cumberland Falls Invitational Tournament had some very tough teams. I agree we should have about four teams from this area, but it was great to see the talented teams compete in this tournament.

The team from Florida that won the tournament beat Corbin in the Semi Finals by only 4 points.
Last night Corbin lost by one point to the New York team. Corbin gave a very good effort in both games and Josh Crawford in limited playing time was very effective. He is such a smooth ball player and a fine young man. I hope he has a real big year for the Redhounds. Another plus factor for Corbin is their bench came through and nearly brought us back in both games. Corbin should have the depth to finish the season very well with Josh getting back with his leadership and talent, and with many players being able to perfrom well.

Playing against the teams that defeated Corbin in their last two games should make Corbin tougher. These were both quick, excellent shooting and solid defensive teams. They raised the tempo of the game and should help us in competing well against our 13th Region opponents.

Jackson County also performed well in the tournament. They will be factor in the 13th Region Tournament this year. Best wishes to Josh Crawford and all the Redhound coaches and player for a Happy 2008.

The 13th Region Basketball Tournament should be a tough event this year. The Corbin-Pineville game Thursday night was an example of just how close in ability several teams in the Region have become. The end of the game demonstrated the highs and the lows of emotions in high school sports. Cashen made a smart play to foul the Pineville player before his last second shot. Corbin had not fouled enough to give Pineville a chance to go to the free throw line. Out of four Corbin fans I talked to the next morning three believed the referee made the right call and one believed the basket should have counted. Several people later told me the foul clearly occured prior to the shot.

Pineville nearly came out with a victory on Corbin's homefloor. Corbin has a very fine team. Sometimes we try to depend too much on three point shots, and if our shooters are badly missing as they have been lately, you can choke up on too many three's. Corbin's defense is tough and that gives our team a great weapon. I hope the Redhounds can make it back to Lexington this year, but tournament play should be a real test in this region.

It was great to see the Redhounds win at Clay County. It was a close one in overtime but those are the ones that make you tough when tournament time rolls around.

Looks like we got a favorable district match.

We flipped and drew the #1 seed, and drew W'burg in the first game, while SL has to play Whitley at Whitley, which will be tougher than playing them anywhere else.

I don't want to sound like the W'burg game is a given win, but, the law of averages is there, they just don't have much.

It should be a good tourney.

We want to be in Knox Central to root for our Redhounds Monday night when they play a tough Knox Central team in the Semi Finals of the 13th Region. The hounds are only two wins away from Rupp Arena in the Sweet Sixteen. Go Redhounds!
