NEW YEAR / NEW ADMINISTRATION

MAYOR MILLER AND COMMISSIONER ONKST ATTENDED THIER LAST REGULAR SCHEDULED MEETING TODAY CONCLUDING THIER SERVICE TO THIS COMMUNITY.BOTH MEN SHOULD BE PROUD OF THE JOB THEY DID WHILE IN OFFICE AND THE LEADERSHIP THEY PROVIDED THIS COMMUNITY DURING THIER TERMS.BOTH FACED TOUGH DECISIONS CONCERNING THE DIRECTION THIS COMMUNITY,FROM CITY FINANCIAL PROBLEMS TO SUNDAY SALES ,BOTH DID WHAT THEY THOUGHT WAS IN THE BEST INTREST FOR ALL, NOT JUST A FEW.

NOW MAYOR ELECT MC BURNEY WILL TAKE THE WHEEL ALONG WITH COMMISSIONER ELECT LYNCH TO CONTINUE WHAT IS IN MOTION AND BEGIN NEW VENTURES WITHIN OUR CITY. I WAS IMPRESSED TO HEAR MAYOR MILLER TO OFFER MR. MC BURNEY HIS FULL SUPPORT DURING HIS TERM WITH A OPEN DOOR TO CALL ANYTIME SHOULD THE NEED ARISE.

NOW WITH THE NEW YEAR/TERMS SOON TO BEGIN WE AS A COMMUNITY SHOULD SUPPORT OUR ELECTED OFFICALS IN THIER NEW ASSIGNMENTS.

If Mayor Miller and Onkst are such great leaders as you claim, then why didn't they get back the Occupational Tax money that Knox County owes the City of Corbin???This was the biggest HEIST of all times.

I agree with this person, they have done a great service to the community. They have done what they thought was the best, remember we or some of us proably voted for them. Now it is time for Mr. Mcburney and Mr. Lynch to do what they think is best for the community. Mr Mcburney done what any person should do, he observed the process before jumping in. He will represent this city and work for everyone. Redhound 68

Do you think MILLER and ONKST thought about this?
I guess these great GODS of City Hall have fallen asleep on this
issue.

I hope Mayor elect McBurney and the new commission will be able to work with Knox County to get our rightful share of the occupational tax. If not, we should file suit against Knox County.

About six Months ago Corbin had retained a Special Attorney to File Suit against Knox County over the Occupational Tax. We have heard nothing since that time, this has cost Corbin now MILLIONS of Dollars.

Mayor Miller listened to a Certain Knox County Magistrate and became a little too close to this guy, the result is we have not really pushed this issue! The people of Corbin have paid this Tax since 1999 and have recieved not a Single penny in return????

It's time to Drag Knox County & their Magistrates into Court and Sue every single one of them untill our City is compensated. I have NEVER heard of another Gov who could Tax an Independent City and not have to pay some of it back???

The writer is Correct, shame on our Elected Officials for being Asleep at the wheel and not acting correctly when all of this started!! Our Folks are amoung the lowest in the Nation in per captia income, shameful that our City does not act to protect them from this Illegal shakedown!!!!

People who work in Corbin, Knox County, and businesses tht operate in Corbin, Knox County pay the occupational tax and part of it goes to Knox County Fiscal Court and part of it to the city of Barbourville, That is taxation without representation. Barbourville deserves to receive part of the occupational tax that is paid in Barbourville, but they should not receive a penny of the tax paid in the City of Corbin. Corbin citizens are the only ones in the Commonwealth who are paying taxes to another city.

This isn't fair nor is it right for us to continue to let this happen without an legal effort to change this robbery of our people. I hope the new leadership in Corbin will take the proper action to get this changed.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to our new leaders and to all our people in Corbin, Whitley, and Knox County. May they work together for the good of all our people. May they put the people first, and provide fairness, integrity, and justice for all. I hope these next four years bring more jobs and opportunity for our people. May this be a wonderful period in the history of our counties and communities.

Best wishes to all.

Has there been any movement on the lawsuit, or the filing thereof, against Knox county for the occupational tax money.

I haven't read anything in either of the papers lately on the subject. Maybe they can read this and check into it.

I believe two persons from the commission have been named to meet with the new County Judge Executive to re-open talks on this subject. A agree, it may take a suit to get any action. Knox County and Barbourville have swindled Corbin out of its share of the taxes. Taxation without representation.
