RE: Your site made the paper today, congratulations !!!!

Morning Glory,

Thanks for giving your views. The people on this forum seem dedicated to getting the facts ,raising good questions, and coming up with some suggestions. This is a good process for information.

This site gets better each week.
I asked one of the commissioners if they read it, and he just smirked and said, "I've heard of it."

I hope the posters picks up,,,,,,,,,,we need more opinions and ideas.

Most of our politicians are not interested in knowing what we think about our area. But I believe our new Mayor, Willard McBurney does care. Let's keep giving our ideas and suggestions and maybe one of our commissioners will start listening to us.

I doubt the Fiscal Court in Whitley County will listen because they have never listened to, or cared about Corbin.
We must stand up for ourselves.

Mr. Watson, founder of IBM, had each complaint letter from their customers brought to his office so that he could personally read them and know how their customers perceived their product quality and service. Even as IBM grew much larger and more complex he still stayed close to the opinions and problems of IBM's customers. Often times top management or governmental officials don't want to hear the problems. They insulate themselves away from what is really happening and often they hire a consultant and pay them a lot money when if they only listened to their employees and customers they would find out for themselves. Let's keep this communication line open and operating and perhaps we should provide the city and county leaders a monthly summary for the top issues.

I heard that about the IBM president before. It was in a business and economics class I took years ago. That is why they were on top for so long.

McBurney does listen to everyone, I've seen him around town talking and LISTENING. In my opinion, there's only one commissioner that is oblivious to any opinions of those not in his circle.

One thing I do know, and that's when a person starts complaing to the city, they will team up on you and you may have your say, but you're looked at as a "complainer" and they really don't listen anymore.

SO, I wonder if you, or I for that matter, were to print these posts off and snail mail them to all the commissioners and mayor, they would read them. They would at least open them I'm sure.

It would only cost about $3 to mail them. I may do that.

This site has grown in just the last week or so.
That's great. We need that, more input.

Congratulations to you and your website. The visability your site received today in the weekly newspaper should get you most followers. Thank goodness we have a way to express our opinions.

Sounds like somebody has sour grapes about no longer having the only editorial voice in Corbin.  However, he has a good point about posters providing their names here in the forum.

Did Don Estep Provide you with the names of his two sources he was refering to in his article of Rage???? NO!

Did Estep provide you with the name of the Website he was Bashing in his article???  NO!

He was using Anonymous information to his readers, Yet claiming to condemn Anonymous sources.

Wonder why he did not give you any names, especially the name of this site or maybe who owns it?????? Again,in my opinion he was talking out of both sides of his mouth.

I know who baited Mr. Estep into writing this silliness, and I'm amazed that Mr. Estep would listen to this idiot. I'm sure this guy won't printout this messege and show it to Mr. Estep, just like he omitted other messeges he didn't want Mr. Estep to see. Shame on you Mr. Estep for listening to one or two bafoons who just want to mess up other peoples lives, jobs and our city.

Oh Mercy
There is no Arch Villian that tricked Poor Ole Estep into sticking his foot in his mouth, he has a Long History of having this ability to do so.

The Previous Poster zero'd in very well, his rant was full of sources he did not name but on the other hand whined about a certain web site that did the same????

Times have changed, everything is Public now and moves at the speed of light, the ole days of only the Times Tribune & News Journal as sources of Information are long passed.

My advice to Estep is to get your ducks in a row if your going to be sitting on one of these boards and do your debating with FACTS and DATA, get out of 1975 or life may get real tough with many different opinions of what folks think you may be doing, be clear, concise and get the Facts & Milestones out to the Public!!!

I bet the administrator of this website is getting more demand for his services since he received that valuable coverage in the News Journal. I have not found anyone who agrees with the News Journal on their thumbing their noses at this website.

Tell us, has business picked up even more?

I enjoy reading Don Estep's newspaper and enjoy his column as well.  There is nothing wrong with relying on a small town weekly newspaper to catch up on the news.  Mr. Estep has been around Corbin quite and adds a nice sRestaurant Consultantn things.

Don Estep has a great voice for broadcasting. I believe he should have been a TV Weatherman. He would do much better presenting the weather than news and sports. It is a shame he did not specialize as a meteorologist.

Tough to be a Weatherman if your always 100% Positive of the Weather, you know like an all knowing Oracle of some kind.

I think Reading Palms or Crystal Ball Gazing would have been much better, maybe we can get a reading on where all of the Tourist Commission Members were at on the 4th of July???

Were they supporting the Corbin Tourism Money that was spent on City Fireworks or Outside the City Supporting other Entities, just Curious.

I agree, crystal ball gazing would be better. It's hard to be humble if you're perfect in every way.

Some former Corbin grads were in town and told me they enjoy this website. They said they are surprised people here have a resource to have open discussion and that their is great info about our area on this website. Thanks for the work you do.

I was at a state meeting a couple of weeks ago and while talking to a state official she mentioned seeing the weekly newspaper and commented that we must have a lot of problems in Corbin, after reading a story "Restaurant forced to cancel pasta wrestling" that warranted front page publicity in the weekly paper. The story contained quotes of reports from anonymous sources to the local police and other information about a "Pasta Wrestling" at a local restaurant.

A person listening from economic development then commented that this kind of "Front Page News" could be very detrimental to attracting new industry.

He explained that often companies would send in a scout or two to survey a community. They would go around the town asking questions as to how individuals felt about the area without telling who they were or what they were doing.

One thing they have added to the scouting information is to check the local newspapers. When they see stories such as this, using anonymous reports to the police chief about events as ridiculous as Pasta Wrestling that are somehow made into a major news story, major enough to a newspaper to make the front page of a weekly, they get alarmed.

I asked him what if these newspapers actually used their ink to print legitimate news stories or at least buried these types of silly stories in the back, like this same paper did about the tragic death of a Corbin woman on Kentucky Street, he said this was a sign of strength. It showed good community and media priorities.

After our meeting these officials got into their space ship and flew off.

We indeed do have some individuals here always looking to disrupt, not assist. Rather than work with, they work against those who give of their time to make the community better. They don't attend meetings or write letters or run for office unless it gains them publicity and a pat on the back. But behind the sceens that stay on the sidelines and try to create disharmony.

The irresponsible newspapers in our community that promote disharmony should be shut down immediately before great harm is done.

And those who want a voice in how the community is run, send your letters to a daily paper that don't filter out opinions that just might happen to oppose those of the editor, or post them on a website that promotes the attributes of Corbin, doesn't seem to muzzle your opinion, and has sparked some much needed constructive community debates on some important local issues.

Bob, your website has been getting a lot of contacts since you started it several years ago. It has now gone into orbit. Each day I am anxious to see the many messages that are posted.  The people have a way to speak and give their opinion.

You should hope the Weekly paper criticizes your website again because it has given it additional visability. If people use this website they will love it. I hope they get after you again Wednesday.

This message board is just one part of the multi-faceted communication system. This is the best I have ever seen. Pray for more free publicity from the weekly paper.

Years ago when they banned a book in Boston it became a best seller. Stay in there and keep battling for a better community.

I was thinking the same thing. You should hope they give you more free publicity! I may do you a favor and write a nasty letter about the website to the weekly paper. This thing is red hot!

If you write a letter to the weekly paper, don't count on it being published, they only support free speech and freedom of the press when it benefits them.  A good name for that paper could be "The Censored News Weekly".

Bob, Jr, you got another good break Wednesday when the News Journal ripped you and your website again. It won't be long till you will have the biggest audience in the free world.

Did you have to pay the woman to write the letter? Put a copy of that in your scrap book because that was another Golden moment to remember.

But thats not the kind of publicity that this board needs.

I am sure there is a lot of work put into managing the board. Without all of the negative posting, and I am not saying that it comes from board management, this board could be viewed by almost everyone as a really good thing for Corbin.

As it presently stands, it just depends on who you happen to be talking to.

It is too good a forum not to be reaching its full potential.

People like Ms Rich, and Estep and company, loathe this type of forum, as it is free, unregulated space for mainstream Joe Citizen to air his gripes as well as his likes.

Without this type of forum, there would be no questioning of anything by the average person.  I learn something every time I get on this board. And I'll tell you what, most of it is true and factual.  Sure there's some baloney floating around, but, there is at city hall too.

Keep it up.

Its just the same people posting and digging.  Their are some great ideas here but for the same people to sit back and slam is ridiculous.  If you don't like something then get on the committee to change it.  I am sure any board would love to have someone who will work for free and help.  Its always the same people who work and do everything and its the same people who sit back and complain.
