Yeah, that's a great idea. Let's take one of the smartest men that has ever resided in our area and ask him to just quietly go away. That would be really great for our community. Then nothing would ever change, and our little town could boast that we either run people out of town or convince them just to shut up.
I can't wait to hear your next great thought......
Mr. Terrell, I think that you are basically a good man.
I would suggest for your own benefit that you sit back and enjoy life.
You do not deserve the flak that comes from all of this.
It is also past time that Junior left the nest.
I agree.
Are there no good shuffleboard courts for this guy to play on at the senior citizens center.
Please, Please keep supporting whatever little cult you are supporting - you make the Terrell's look even better every time you type. Anyone that is for positive change for our area like the Terrells, keep up the work. These people are obsessed with people like you, the Terrells, the Meyers woman, and others because they know they don't have the ability to bring positive change themselves or won't get all the credit if, or I should say when, it happens.
The above posters are warped. Keep keeping us entertained.

Who is this "Meyers woman" that you speak of? Are you talking about the Main Street Manager again? Does she have some positive changes that are being rejected or are you still stuck on the art train idea? And isn't she just a city employee that was hired about a year ago? Didn't the city commission vote to start the Main Street Program and hire this manager last year? You seem to think that she is some sort of independent operator. What kind of positive change has she done? How about getting some property owners to fix up the fronts of their buildings. Or maybe get a few eye sores torn down like the property across from old city hall or the trashy looking gaming castle or pet shop or whatever it is? I think that you are putting too much stock in her abilities. That is like saying that the recycling center supervisor or the fire chief will bring positive change to Corbin. She, like them, is a city employee and should do what the elected leaders hired her to do. I read the papers. I watch the meetings on TV. I see how nice some of the other towns look. Start by taking care of some of the sub-standard main street buildings. Fix up the looks of main street first. Corbin does not need another concert coordinator.

First of all I have gotten by for 74 years without taking any advice from you. Secondly, the way I spend my life is none of your business. Third, I can handle the flak Fourth, the reason our son moved back here this year was because my wife and his mother had half her colon removed, and I have a pacemaker/defibrillator and he has been a great deal of help to us.
I don't tell you or anyone else how to live your lives. But it is amazing since I came back home in December, 1997 how many people try to tell me how to live mine.
I think if you met with Sherea, or came to one of her forums, you would have a better understanding of the Main Street Program, and what her long-term goals are. I would think that having someone fix up dilapadated buildings would be the job of the building inspector. She is an advocate for the downtown businesses, and believe me, many of them are hanging on by a thread. She is very easy to talk to, and would love to clear up her job description, I'm sure. Give the girl a chance, Rome wasn't built in a day, and downtown Corbin won't be rebuilt in one either.

I hear that the Main Street manager is going to get certified soon.
Will there be some difference in the appearance of Main Street shortly?
People are looking for some progress in this area and I think they want to know just when some of the worse looking places on Main Street might get renovated.
Dr. Lee Todd, President of the U. of Kentucky did a great job today at the Chamber of Commerce luncheon. We are fortunate to have him as President of UK. He was a highly successful business leader of several high technology companies that he established and made successful and he is bringing outstanding leadership to UK. Our state University is becoming a Research Center.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Brown III did a fine job hosting Dr. Todd and his group. Prior to the Chamber luncheon Dr. Todd and his group were taken on a tour of Corbin High School by Supt. Ed McNeel and his staff.

You might want to read this previous post. Also, the Main Street program isn't all about paint and flowers - the individual store owners or building owners still have the responsibility to clean up and improve the looks of their own buildings.
Have you driven downtown lately, and really looked at the storefronts. Take a slow walk down mainstreet, on both sides, from the railroad overpass up to the one way traffic island split. Then, come back on here and tell me what you think.
I'll tell you, it's a mess. A real, honest to goodness mess.
The Downtown Program can only do certain things, and fixing up individual buildings that he owners have let run into the ground isn't one of them.
What needs published is the property owners of the buildings. Then, we could hound them to death and shame them into fixing up their buildings. Many think they should get big city rent for these buildings in little ol corbin.
Count the empty stores. And, the ones that are left, take a look at what kind of business's they are.
The Downtown Program can't work miracles, and it isn't a bank. It's not a construction company either.
It has helped in other towns, but it hasn't done it all. The property owners and/or business owners have to play the biggest part. Sherae described that in the last forum meeting. Maybe at the one in november, she'll go over it again.

The Downtown Program has done that in other towns.
Why not ours?
What towns are referring to, especially in 9 months? London, Ashland, Stanford and other communities took several years before visual changes in their downtown main street could be seen. Give us some examples of your studies on Main Street programs.

This was an outstanding meeting.

Did you graduate from Louisville?
I attended U of L three semesters on a basketball scholarship and transferred to Georgetown between semesters my sophomore year. I graduated from Georgetown. and was there three baseball seasons. Coach Rupp was right when he felt I was not tall enough to be considered at UK. I played basketball as a freshman and one semester as a sophomore and baseball on Louisville's varsity team my freshman year. Having lived away from Kentucky a number of years I rooted for all Kentucky Colleges. It is tough when UK and Louisville play. I was rooting for UK in the great football game they recently won.
While Roy Kidd was coach at EKU that was my number one team along with the Redhounds.

Is the Chamber in Corbin going to invite candidate for Governor Steve Beshear to speak? I know they had Governor Fletcher several months ago and this month Republican Attorney General Candidate Lee is speaking. Why have they failed to invite the Democratic Candidate to speak. It looks like he will win and why would Corbin want to burn their bridges to him is he becomes our Governor? That doesn't seem to be very wise to me.
I would wager that the Chamber Board has not even had this subject brought to them. I don't believe most members, Republican or Democrat, would want to turn a cold shoulder to either candidate for Governor in this election. Corbin should want to work with whichever of them is elected. What would Corbin's Chamber gain by snubbing the likely winner of the November election for Governor? This is certainly something they should think about.
We have now taked about this for at least two Months, there is no question what so ever that Steve Beshear will easily be the next Governor, even the die hard Republicans know it's a done deal! Now, as far as being wise, my guess is the damage is already done.
The Chamber President has managed to shoot all ten of not only his toes off but more than likely the Community also. This guy has a Long History of stirring more trouble than he is worth. I've seen nothing he has been involved in over the last 20 Years that he has not either messed up or stirred up.
The City Commission would be insane to add anyone else to the Recreation Department untill they find something worhtwhile for the current director to do rather than going to Chanber meetings, Varsity Club Business or surfing the net!
The Chamber has waited too long to invite Beshear to speak. This has been a real blunder. Even if the Chamber is 100% Republican they should be fair and just in a Governor's election in allowing both sides equal opportunity. Some of them are too busy blasting this website and not busy enough in representing the business community and people.
Thanks very much. That is another thing I like about this message board. People appreciate good posts and let you know about it. I appreciate your compliment very much.
You're right, Carpenter and the Chamber do deserve some credit for the hard work the do, and if they ever do any work, then they'll get some credit. When Carpenter gets off the corner stool at his office annex at the Depot and quits drinking beer on company time, and goes out and tries to recruit some company to come to the area, and the chamber quits playing republician politics and finds a real chairman that knows what a chamber of commerce is supposed to do, then they'll get some credit.
Carpenter is probably the finest Industrial Commissioner in Kentucky. His very successful experience as an Executive at Pepsi Cola and his wonderful business knowlegge will help us continue to get many high paying new jobs for our people. He would be a great person to run for Charlie Siler's seat in the House. We are fortunate to have such a fine gentleman in our community. He is also well known for treating his employees with respect and being able to inspire them to a greater level of performance.
