RE: Who's Chamber of Commerce is it ??????

Good post Don, glad to see you stepping up to the plate.

Carpenter did the vending machines and fountain trailers at pepsi. That isn't rocket science.

I hope he does run, it'll be interesting to see what they dig up on him.

Carpenter is probably the finest Industrial Commissioner in Kentucky. His very successful experience as an Executive at Pepsi Cola and his wonderful business knowlegge will help us continue to get many high paying new jobs for our people. He would be a great person to run for Charlie Siler's seat in the House. We are fortunate to have such a fine gentleman in our community. He is also well known for treating his employees with respect and being able to inspire them to a greater level of performance.

I'm really trying to figure out if this is a joke or not. I'm really not sure. Sounds like a joke, but could have been written seriously. No, I think it's a joke.

If you're talkin about the paragraph above your post, I think it was a serious post by someone that thinks it's true. It's a joke to us that know Carpenter. There are people out there that think his stuff don't stink. Like the office assistant that signed the letter after nibroc, that Bruce and Don helped write, and convinced her to put her name on it.

Yes, to the Carpenter people, it's a serious post.

This is a pretty serious accusation. Do you know this to be true? Did they write it for her and get her to sign it? What is your source?

Please provide more information, because personally I think you are spreading a bunch of lies, which seems pretty common on this board.

Is the Chamber in Corbin going to invite candidate for Governor Steve Beshear to speak? I know they had Governor Fletcher several months ago and this month Republican Attorney General Candidate Lee is speaking. Why have they failed to invite the Democratic Candidate to speak. It looks like he will win and why would Corbin want to burn their bridges to him is he becomes our Governor? That doesn't seem to be very wise to me.

I heard that Beshear will be in Corbin on Thursday.

Is this true?

It is hard to believe that Corbin's Chamber invited Gov. Fletcher to speak at their luncheon and did not extend that same opportunity to the other candidate, Steve Beshear. This is lousy judgment on the part of the Chamber Board. The City of Corbin and Corbin Chamber should want to have good relationships with both political parties. This was not a smart move on their part.

I don't know how that came to be but I was thinking that Gov Fletcher's office had  announced that he was coming to Corbin for ground breaking on the Expo Center and that the Chamber just jumped on it and changed their meeting date for that month to take advantage of it. I don't think they actually called and asked for Gov. Fletcher to come to Corbin for a Chamber meeting. At any rate I agree that Corbin should extend a welcome to Steve Beshear. Thank you Mr. Terrell for putting it all together.

This is the truth. I'm glad someone is finally setting the record straight on this.

Gov. Fletcher spoke at the Groundbreaking ceremony that morning and gave a political speech. Then an hour later he gave a speech at the Chamber Luncheon and that was a political speech.  The Chamber Board should have the wisdom to keep from snubbing the opponent of the Gov., Steve Beshear. How would the Republicans have felt if it had been reversed? They would have been mad as the devil.

Mad? I certainly would hope that the democrats are not "mad" over something like that.  The Fletcher administration has literally invested millions in Corbin and was here to dedicate the site. If Beshear wins on Nov. 6 will his administration continue to invest in Corbin or will he snub Whitley County just like other democrat governors have in the past? I hope someone will ask him that. What do some of you democrat posters think about this matter? Can Corbin count on Beshear?

So far no Democratic gov has given Corbin anything like the Governor Fletcher has. Let me tell you no Democrate will win in this area nor will they give us anything. The people of this area had better get out and vote for Fletcher and the republican party. Look what they have done for this area.

I understand and appreciate your point, however for me there is a difference. His title is Governor Fletcher and that carries more weight than Gubernatorial Candidate Beshear. I guess that is what makes it a little more difficult to be an incumbent, they already have the power.

What have they done?

If you want to say the new Expo Center, you're wrong. If you want to say Fletcher came through with money to tear down the old Hospital and the Democrats did not, well, it was privately owned when the Dems were in office, and couldn't. The "Fletcher" Technology Center? Wrong again.

Here is one of the last stories I read.

"Safety First" Is Governor Fletcher's Message To Southeastern Kentucky

Oct 2, 2007

FRANKFORT, Ky. - Governor Ernie Fletcher today delivered funding to 11 police and sheriff's departments in southeastern Kentucky to assist with efforts to curb speeding and impaired driving and to promote seatbelt usage.

The funding, presented in a news conference at Somerset, is part of the Governor's comprehensive traffic safety initiative, which has significantly reduced the number of fatalities on Kentucky highways.

"Safety on Kentucky's roadways has always been one of my highest priorities," said Governor Fletcher. "We are also steadfast in support of the efforts of law enforcement to prevent highway tragedies. We are here today to underscore our commitment to those priorities."

The Governor presented $174,228 in grants to law enforcement agencies from seven counties - Harlan, Jackson, Knox, Laurel, Leslie, Pulaski and Rockcastle. The grants are federally funded but administered by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC). The recipients:

Harlan County Sheriffs Department - $10,000 for impaired driving programs.
Harlan Police Department - $10,000 for impaired driving programs.
Jackson County Sheriffs Department - $4,000, occupant protection.
Laurel County Sheriffs Department - $40,000, impaired driving.
London Police Department - $30,000, speed enforcement.
Hyden Police Department - $4,000, occupant protection.
Burnside Police Department - $12,000 speed enforcement.
Pulaski County Sheriffs Department - $22,678, impaired driving.
Somerset Police Department - $14,000 speed enforcement.
Rockcastle County Sheriffs Department - $15,000, speed enforcement
Barbourville Police Department - $12,550, speed enforcement

Obviously Corbin must not need financial assistance to hire say, one or two more officers. London/Laurel County received $70,000, Corbin and Whitley County zero.

Thanks for the cut and paste article but what is your point?

Are you saying that Beshear and his democrat administration would do more for Corbin than Fletcher has?

Wasn't it a democratic governor that gave us all the funds for our road projects back in the 90's.
We got the bypass, widening falls highway, the main street project, and the railroad overpass all in one year. Wasn't that a democratic governor.

And, I believe it was a deomcrat governor that gave us the Off Track betting parlor, that is a solid cash cow for corbin. And that said, the organized crime and prostitutes the republicians and holy rollers said would take over the town didn't show up. Or, maybe they did, then Fletcher got elected.

That is a bunch of bunk.

Who built the bypass from Cumberland Falls Hwy to Cumb. Gap Parkway? A Democratic Governor.

Who built the bridge that connects Kentucky avenue and Masters Street? A Democratic Governor.

Who approved the Tri-County Industrial Park and provided a zero interest rate on that land? A Democratic Governor.

Who approved the Regional Business Park? Gov. Patton

Who was Governor when the road from Corbin to Barbourville was improved? A Democratic Governor.

Who was Governor when the New Technology Center was approved and constructed? Gov. Patton, a Democratic Governor.

Who was Governor when the first approval was given for Corbin's New Exposition Center? Gov. Patton.

Which party has been in power in Whitley County as it has gone into debt so far the state nearly took it over and an occupational tax had to be passed to pay for incompetence?  The Republican Party. And what is their legacy? The county bought the land for the jail from the family of the present County Judge Executive.  What about the $20 Million Whiitley County Airport what has no planes coming in or out? Who sold the land for the Williamsburg Post Office? For the Airport? For the Waterpark?

And what Republican dominated county had to add an occupational tax to keep the State from having to take it over? The Whitley County Republicans. And instead of that occupational tax helping us fix more roads and gain more jobs it is just going to pay for incompetent leadership.

Which political leaders have been dragging their feet on improving the intersection on 5th Street Road where Black Diamond and Barton Mill Annex come together near the new Corbin Elementary School. Safety is the purpose.
Ernie and Bill have been delaying this.

Who are the political leaders who have not approved yet the four lane road that will run from Cumberland Falls Hwy up the mountain to the new Exposition Center? Guess who?

Who has been slow in building the connector road from Rt. 6 to the bypass to make it more convenient for people in Woodbine to have better transportation?
Guess Who?

Who has been dragging their feet on improving the infrastructure of roads, exits, and safety at exit 25 off I-75? It is already a dangerous traffic area, but when the Convention Center is completed it will be even more dangerous. Guess Who?

Who has been sitting on their duff while the "Forgotten road" is half finished in the Tri-County Industrial Park? For over two years a road that was supposed to cost $850,000 ran out of money and sits there half finished. It will take $600,000 more to complete it. Guess Who?

You have really kidded yourself about who has helped our area. Please talk about the facts in the future.

Please don't let the facts interupt you from your delusion. I know it is hard for some people to live in the real world. Now go back to sleep.

LOL. This board is divided into two destinctive groups. Those that present actual facts, and those who can't win with facts and throw on "I CAN'T READ ALL YOUR FACTS CAUSE ITS MORE THAN 3 PARAGRAPHS" or "Dems are idiots, I'm not as much of one".

I like the facts I've seen of the Democrats. Republicans, give me some real facts, not just a bunch of "We're better, you're stupid" or "The Dems have never givin' us anything".

Sell your case. So far the Dems have a better sales pitch - its called presenting the facts.

This could be very entertaining.
