I was looking over my cable bill the other night and noticed a large jump in my monthly cost for my cable and internet access. A year or so ago I signed up for a combination package with Charter Communications for expanded basic and high-speed internet access for $79 per month plus the half-dozen or so different local, state and federal taxes.
My new bill from NEWWAVE Communications surprised me - $69 for expanded basic, plus $42 for internet access, totaling $111 bucks. I called NEWWAVE's customer support line and spoke with a woman named Jetta at extension 2608. I explained to her about the increase in my bill, and she informed me that when Charter was purchased by NEWWAVE, all promotional packages that Charter had offered were discontinued by NEWWAVE. I said I was never informed of this change, and she stated that they did not inform anyone, they just did it.
Great way to run a business. I'm sure this has hit many people out there, but I want to know how they can jack up our bills over 40% without informing the customers or the city of Corbin.
It is a poor way to run a business, but it shouldn't surprise me - customer service is an out of date term - customers don't count anymore. It is no different with NEWWAVE.
I agree on the high rates of New Wave. I have less stations than I used to have and pay more.
Also, Corbin City Utilities for some years did not raise the cost of water and sewage service. But recently they jumped it up so high it is ridiculous. Some of the companies that provide jobs to our people are now facing higher costs of operations when the global market is causing us to lose jobs in our nation. And homeowners in many cases are having a tough time with mortgage rates, increased local taxes, higher energy costs, higher insurance costs, and a stagnant wage system.
Why couldn't the Utility Company make small raises over the next few years instead of a radical increase? How are we going to attract jobs to our area if we don't have some advantages to offer prospective companies? Utilities are not in business to make profits. They are in business to profit cost effective services and a better quality of life.
Same here, called and was told the plan I had was discontinued, so I dropped them and went to DISH Network and BellSouth DSL for internet. Both are much better quality.
Sounds like a problem - I've heard several people say they had the same problems with NewWave - changed the price without notice. Anyone asked the City about how these guys seem to operate?
New Wave has raised rates to an unacceptable level. I hope the city reviews their agreement, if they put any time into haveing a fair agreement for the people.
Two or three years ago we had a wide range of channels to choose from for about $50 a month. Now we have much fewer channels and it costs $110 per month. We are look at getting a Sat. Dish.
My NewWave hi-speed broadband goes out practically every day. I have to unplug the cable modem for 10 or 15 seconds, plug it back in, wait a minute or so, then it will work - until it goes out again within hours.
Does anyone else have this issue? I can't get DSL where I'm at so I'm at NewWave's mercy, but as soon as there is an alternative where I live, these guys are out.
We have that same problem. Something seems fouled up several times a day. I am in the same position as you, I can't get any other so called high speed program where I live. And New Wave's prices seem to raise consistently.
The city of Corbin had an opportunity to start is on city owned cable several years ago, and the cowards that were on the commission bowed down to the local cable company. They relied mainly on one persons advice that had previously been in the cable business so to speak, and that person knew he wouldn't get the job of running the city cable service. SO, no city cable service.
Every single month I've had to call and get my bill corrected. I am told one price but suddenly there is a $5 late charge! The problem is that I've never been late. I found out that if the 'due date' says (ex:) 20th... you have to have your check in by the 10th as they hold the checks for clearing, thus putting you 'late'. It's the stupiest thing I've ever heard of as most people do pay by check for our record and convenience. Not with them.. pay cash if you're going to pay on the due date or get socked with a late charge.
The service leaves a lot to be desired. I've had service all appointments scheduled and they never come. I've had people show up and there was NO service call at all! Odd but true.
Satellite is the way to go as soon as Dish offers internet.. I'm there!
